I’ve been really getting into mafia romance lately. Primarily because it is just a silly, goofy time. It entertains me, somehow it captivates me, and I read the stories about possessive morally grey MMCs and their obsession with the FMC like there’s no tomorrow.
This story is about Finn and Aoife. Finn is a made man and Aoife owns a tea house in a building that Finn needs to secure for business. However, Aoife really doesn’t want to sell her plot. Finn goes down to her tea house to “persuade” Aoife to sell. Thus ensues a lot of romance, power play, danger, and smut. Everything I love (because yes, I’m a whore).
With the Filthy series I have found a new mafia romance book series full of standalone (yet within the same universe) mafia romances with a HAE (at least that is what I’m assuming from the two that I have read within the series).
If you have read the Born in Blood series by Cora Reilly and enjoyed it, then this is the next series for you. BiB and the Five Points series are similar in various regards; every book you follow a different member of the family, usually they are dual point of view (MMC and FMC), and they are filled with powerful, possessive men in suits and feisty female characters who bring them to their knees.
This book had everything that I want from a mafia romance, however it was long-winded at times. I read it on Kindle and in the last two hours of the book nothing of note really happened.
What is more, I was a little taken aback by the pace at which the MMC & FMC fell in love (I know, I’m still a sucker for that, regardless it was a little quick).
Moreover, I had some issues with how the MMC treated the FMC and how she mostly just accepted that. I would’ve liked her to be more fiery and less obedient. I am a feminist after all. However, when reading these books my feminism just flies out the window. The magic about books like these is that while reading I don’t really mind. Honestly I went all caveman/cavewoman for Finn.

Felt like it needed editing. The story moved too slowly for my taste. After more than 100 pages, I still don't know where the plot was trying to take me. Decided I didn't want on the ride, and hopped right off. I need more excitement!

Mafia is usually not my bag, but Jacob Morgan's narration makes it worth it.

Age gap mafia romance and insta love. Juvenile writing style. Repetitive inner monologues. Misogynist hero. Doormat heroine. Uninteresting mafia storyline. Uninteresting family drama.
I might have liked the romance if the main characters were likable. Both hero and heroine stank of misogyny. At one point, hero has an entire inner monologue about women belonging in the kitchen. Heroine is also a hypocrite. On the outside, she acts like she loves her best friend. But on the inside, she keeps referring to her best friend as a jealous and petty bitch.
thank u, next

Spending all of five minutes together and “growling” she’s mine…
