Picked up this book because it was on Kindle Unlimited and I enjoyed the authors Tiktok account. But oh man was this a hot mess of a book. Only reason I didn’t DNF was I wanted to know who the killer was and WOW was that ending unsatisfying and way out of left field. Not a single character had any redeeming qualities or a single shred of my sympathy or respect left by the end. Not to mention just how entirely unrealistic or feasible this entire investigation and scenario was from a legal standpoint. We also had some very poor references/depictions of assault and police brutality. I reserve one star reviews for books I DNF but honestly I am tempted to break my rule for this one.

I actually called who the killer was an eon before the reveal. Some secrets were a surprise, but not that one. Although, something I hate in thrillers is the info dump epilogue and that’s exactly what this was.

Another thing that made this fall flat for me is that I disliked all the characters and didn’t feel any emotion/sympathy toward any of them.

That being said, excluding the epilogue info dump, this was tightly plotted with lots of elements that were still easy to follow. It’s a very classic thriller and would potentially be a good intro to the genre.

Read this book if you’re looking for: twists and turns, edge of your seat storyline, thrillers, mystery reads, legal cases
.
If you like thrillers and suspense novels this might just be the book for you! My preferred genre tends to be fluffy, happy, romance books with good banter and happy endings but THIS book had me on the edge my seat in a good way! It was a book that had me guessing the entire time. Actually. Til the very. last. chapter.
I could not have predicted the ending and I kept trying to figure out ‘who done it’.
The chapters alternate points of view and reading pace of this book was just a frantic.
.
Definitely a 5 star read for me and I’m going to add this to my list of books to suggest to others.
Please go check it out!

Bad writing, unlikeable characters, rampant misogyny,
husband very casually sexually assaults his mistress immediately after seeing that she is in an abusive relationship. This is not tagged in any content warnings which is frustrating. Also other reviews have eluded to casual homophobia and police brutality victims which I am not interested in reading at all.

3.5 rating solely because of the ending! One thing I hate about books is when you’re reading from the 1st person perspective, like from the characters thoughts, and their thoughts don’t end up matching the plot. Super early on I assumed Sarah was the killer and planned this all to get back at him, but after reading all her genuine reactions of concern and fear and unbelief that Adam could do this, I was like “okay not her I guess” but the last 30 pages it’s like just kidding! If that was her plan the whole time wouldn’t her thoughts be about that? I know the book wouldn’t have been the same if we had Sarah’s real thoughts, but this book was so hyped up for me I was expecting something crazy and was a bit disappointed. I did enjoy the writing a lot though and it had me glued to the book so even though I’m complaining it actually wasn’t bad
