Dog spoilers if you (like me) want to know what happens to the dog before reading: The dog ends up being fine. She is used as a pawn in the dispute between neighbors and goes “missing” for two weeks. We see the family struggle with this and they even find her but can’t get her back right away, and they see she’s injured and not being treated well. This was distressing to read but ultimately she gets returned and ends up just fine. I almost DNFed at this point, and I had to knock my rating down a bit because of this subplot, but I’m glad I pushed through because this was an engaging read. In the last 100 pages or so, the twists kept on coming. Very thought-provoking. I also particularly enjoyed the courtroom segment.

Perfectly Nice Neighbors was a thriller by a diverse author that I was lucky to receive from Aardvark Book Club, and I really enjoyed this! The pacing and conflict resolution within were perfection. I did not care for the neighbors and predicted some of the plot twists, but this is still a well-written novel with a dynamic, diverse, interesting cast of characters, and moments that I still can't stop thinking about!

In Kia Abdullah style, this is a great court room drama. She dove into heavy topics, like race, created characters that had you guessing until the end, but always comes out with a surprise.
I found this book slow to start, but quickly became an enthralling page turner as I tried to predict the plot twist. I would have rated a 4.5⭐️, until the last paragraph. It left be utterly disappointed and went down to a 1 ⭐️. I would recommended the read, just skip the last chapter!!
