This was just too implausible, and I just couldn't see Kimbra actually blackmailing Duncan into going to the wedding with her, considering she was quite the rule follower.

Why do I do this to myself? I don't mind light and romantic but this was soooooo boring and nonsensical! The only part I really enjoyed was Grandma Helen, and even so she was a bit exaggerated as a character.

HR specialist blackmails her boss into being her fate in exchange for not reporting him having sex in a bathroom with an employee. They IMMEDIATELY fall into bed. 😒

I love a good romantic comedy and this one made me laugh a lot. Kimbra’s family angst and her crazy idea to seize what she sees as a great opportunity make for a hilarious running monologue. Her boss practically jumps at the chance to be blackmailed because he’s been hot for her for years. The attraction is hot and mutual, but Kimbra doesn’t think this could ever be more than pretend.

The complexities of their professional relationship go way beyond the normal boss-employee issues. Kimbra dated a colleague from another department for months before catching him cheating on her, then later accidentally witnesses Duncan canoodling with the same woman in an employee bathroom. That’s great leverage to get her a fake boyfriend, but it also presents unique complications later on at work.

The whole fake boyfriend bit is nerve-wracking for her, but her outrageous family accepts Duncan immediately and they easily pull off the charade. This is a fast-paced story and fun to read. Kimbra is likable from the beginning although it took me a bit to warm up to Duncan. There’s something about the way he speaks that’s distracting, kind of stilted I guess, but I was able to ignore it eventually and enjoyed the story overall.

This was a super sexy light read from a usually dark author. I really enjoyed it.

Duncan and Kimbra work together and she needs him to go attend her wedding as a plus one to avoid the dreaded kiddie table. They pretend to date to keep her family off her back and avoid the twenty one questions from her parents. I liked Duncan and Kimbra together as a couple. They are both like minded and want certain things in life and aren't afraid to chase their dreams. They have some pretty hot sexual chemistry as well and you will definitely be fanning yourself while reading!

As a fan of Jade Sinner, I was so happy to find out who they really were and imagine my surprise one half was the Dark Queen herself Aleatha Romig!! I previously read this story when it was a novella called Duncan the Deal. I enjoyed the story as a novella but loved it even more as a full length story!! It was nice to reacquaint myself with the family especially Grandma Helen.I want to be just like her when I grow up!! This is a sweet, feel good, insta love story that will have you smiling when it's all said and done. This is the perfect kind of book for after a heavy read and you won't be disappointed! I love when an author can switch up genres and Romig did an great job with story!! It was so nice to see a different and lighter side of Aleatha and I look forward to reading more of these books from her.

Loved this book! I definitely recommend it, it's such a light hearted read. So different from the other books Aleatha writes, but she can definitely write light and warm hearted too.
