"The Sex Lives of African Women: Self-Discovery, Freedom, and Healing" by Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah offers a diverse and empowering collection of narratives. The book delves into the complexities of self-discovery and healing in the context of African women's experiences. While the stories are rich and thought-provoking, the pacing and cohesion could be inconsistent at times, impacting the overall reading experience. Nevertheless, the book provides valuable insights into breaking societal taboos and fostering a more open conversation around sexuality in African cultures.

Thank you to all the women who shared their stories and to Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah for creating this project. I learned a lot about myself through these stories, some things I’m less comfortable and happy with than others. I felt affirmed in ways I cannot explain and I will definitely keep returning to this book as the years go on

This is a great collection of stories that capture a diversity of backgrounds, experiences, sexualities and views. It's easy to read through although some stories are more painful than others and require more time to get through. There's an empowering message throughout that I greatly appreciated. There are also a great number of voices represented which for diversity reasons is great but is also the collection's weakness as many of the stories are kept too short and needed more space for depth and background.

One of the best books I've read in a long time. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did as I'm usually more of a fiction girlie but it was such an interesting, eye-openning and healing read. Each woman's account and story was so candid and felt so genuine, which can be rare to come by when talking about something as personal and intimate as sex and relationships. The writing style is super accessible and distinctive in creating an individual voice for each narrative.

As well as this, the diversity of the stories and experiences was really informative and eye-opening. It was so fascinating to get insights into other people's sexual experiences, kinks and preferences. It also felt really healing and validating to read about someone else who shares the same outlook on love and relationships as you do or to learn about what other options are out there. I really found myself hanging on every word these women said and felt so genuinely connected and invested in their lives. Would really recommend to anyone who has an interest in relationships and sex and in exploring what others and themselves feel towards it.
