It’s kind of crazy how wildly my opinions and interest in these characters have flipped from the first book. Now that the Althea/Brashen plot has combined to with the Amber/Paragon plot, it’s definitely what carries this book and the emotional core of the story. I was very invested in Wintrow’s storyline in the first book but don’t care for the Kennit/Wintrow plot in this one nearly as much. Wintrow is annoying me, but I’ve grown fond of Malta. If you had told me I would be wanting MORE Malta after reading the first book, I would have laughed. What a strange development!
