I thoroughly enjoyed how the author relates all of the different animal species to her own life and was able to tell multiple stories at the same time!

The author’s voice was the strength of this collection. I often found myself wondering if this would have appealed to me more if the author had attempted it as a poetry collection rather than vignettes.

The strongest sections were the ones that tied most directly to the author’s experience with nature or the natural element- Firefly, Corpse Flower, Monarch Butterfly. Some of the weaker sections seemed rather like school reports.

I think the organization of the book could have been altered to create a more cohesive storytelling experience. Firefly (Redux) seemed like the closing chapter of the book with clear thematic tie-ins. It was a slog to get through the remaining chapters after reading it because it truly felt like the story was done. It became repetitive.

This book is a beautiful tribute to nature in relationship to one's history, from the trees that shield us from the sun a children, to the animals we marvel at when we go to the zoo.  I found this book to be insightful and inspiring and would recommend it to any nature lover.

Really fun read. The stories about each plant/animal were really cute. Towards the end it got a bit repetitive, but overall I enjoyed this read.
