Reread (2024): 4.5/5

I almost cried coming back to the beginning. Reading it for a second time allowed me to make up my mind on a few things:
- I don't understand the criticism directed towards Tahereh Mafi's writing. I love it.
- I'll never be able to hate Adam because this book exists, and this book is proof that he's good.
- Warner still seems unhinged in this one, but it's CRAZY to read about him because I now understand EVERYTHING that he does and WHY he does it.
- Kenji and James are so insanely important to the story because this book came to life once they started being present in more scenes.
- Juliette will forever be my girl

2.5 stars. The writing style of this almost gives me “Wintergirls” vibes (one of my classic favorites tbh) that’s not what I didn’t like about it. The beginning hooked me for awhile. But after a bit, it was honestly just boring. I’d been “reading” this book for almost a month and a half, I put it down about halfway through and didn’t feel motivated to pick it back up for weeks. It wasn’t awful, but not great. I’m glad I didn’t buy the entire series at once like I usually do. I don’t feel the urge to continue to book two.

Loved, loved, LOVED IT.

I needed to re-read this book since I kind of forgot what happened, but I did know I rated it five stars. And the rating remains the same.

I loved every single one of the characters, yes, even Warner. I kind of felt bad for the poor guy. I think I shouldn't be hating on him anyways since I've heard people have him as their book boyfriends/husbands. Like why would they like the bad guy? So I'm giving him a chance.

I've read so many reviews saying that Juliette is such an attention seeker and too opinionated and things like that. But like, seriously? Give the girl a break. She was unwanted by her parents and society, thrown in the lab for tests like a rat, and then into a cell. I would unalive anyone if they said that they wouldn't behave or act similar to her if something like that happened to them (hopefully not. I'm not trying to give out a threat or something

The first book is fine, but it's downhill from there.
