Stunning construction and layout tells a story from the beginning of the world down to a child in their bedroom. Then the possibilities of that child future.

Love the smaller than bigger format, along with the zoom out zoom in text. This is maybe more a book for adults than kids, but it is still a good one.

What do you wish for the future? is the reflective note on which Schaible ends this beautifully poignant reflection. By gradating the pages (getting gradually smaller and then larger) Schaible shrinks and enlarges the scope of the world and our understanding of time. She touches on what humans have done to the planet by reflecting on big concepts, but also reflects upon the simple change in season and the new joys that it brings (A month ago, it was still fall.) Seasons change, birds fly south, but the core of this book asks us to think kindly about the future.

This breathtaking picture book by Johanna Schaible is unforgettable. Once Upon a Time There Was and Will Be So Much More uses clever gradated pages to show the passage of time as well as dive deeper into what humankind has done to the planet. Just after your heart is broken, the book begins a hopeful surge to the future. It left me a little bit devastated.
