kamado tanjiro you will always be loved by me <3
years after I basically swore that I'd never watch anime again (given my rotten luck with anime in the past), I spent the day with a friend only for her to sit me down and tell me "we're going to watch demon slayer now". barely two months later, we've finished watching up until the hashira training arc and I'm picking up a bunch of the manga volumes from the library. this is what a hyperfixation does to me.
while this first volume certainly isn't terrible, the pacing (particularly from around the halfway mark onward) isn't all that great, particularly when we see essentially two years go by within the span of a chapter or two. I'm not saying to portray every single event that may have unfolded during that time, but it certainly feels rushed and underdeveloped when we could have spent that time exploring things such as tanjiro's grief over losing his entire family. again, it's not bad by any means, but it's certainly wasted potential. regardless, I did enjoy this volume and I'm simultaneously excited and deeply terrified to continue.

Read it reallyy quickly and I really enjoyed it, I read it in the bookstore so the cliffhanger was really not fun but I liked how they pressed so much plot in such a short manga, I feel like with my present ones that’s not so common? I really liked it and im probs gonna read the 2nd one soon

I really liked this. I'm surprised that they skipped over so much of Tanjiro's training and we got to see the two years pass in just a couple scenes, but it helped keep the plot moving. It felt like a really fast read.
Tanjiro is a really good brother. The scenes with his family made me really sad though. Not so much their death, but seeing them as "ghosts" apologizing for having to leave him and at the very end when his brother told him to get back up. Also, the two kids that had previously trained under Urokodaki being dead was a little sad too.
I really like Nezuko. I am confused about why she won't wake up though. To be honest, there is a lot that I am confused about lol.

Really interesting start! Don't love that this book ends in the middle of a battle!! lol but overall fun, if not creepy.

Love being able to read this in my spare moments on my phone. They’ll probably all be 5 stars, because I love Tanjiro.
