Catherine wasn’t dead?!?!? I actually felt some sort of excitement reading this book, considering I hated her other novel β€˜Hate You More’. I love the many different POVs in this book. This was a lot different than I thought it was going to be. I didn’t think I’d enjoy going back in time as many times as we did in the book, but this story did it perfectly. I loved Jasper. That man knew what he deserved in life and I loved how much he was there for Chloe and her siblings throughout the book. I love me a good romance book reader and Jasper being one of those only made him so much more likable. We love a grumpy old man. I’m so glad that this was an upgrade from her other book I read and I think I’d give her other book a try after this.

Parts 1 & 2 totally had me hooked on this story and then everything after kind of lost me. I did love all the literary references and how books played such a key role in the story, especially in Jasper and Catherine’s relationship, which was so beautiful to read about (until Catherine β€œdisappears”). I think this book’s downfall was throwing in all the different POVs and random plot twists in the latter part of the story and then none of them were wrapped up well (or at all) and the book just ends without anyone getting closure or resolution.

Chloe is 24 years old and guardian of her 3 young siblings. She is a part time librarian cleaning out the basement and finds a rare old Hemingway book. There are notes written in the margins of two young lovers from 60 years prior. Who are they and are there more books? What happened with them? I really enjoyed this book, couldn’t wait to keep reading it!

Another book by Lucy Gilmore about a librarian and a curmudgeon. She references her own book which is fun. There are some sweet, deep moments, but overall not the best story, a few extremely annoying people, and not well written.
