I just wasn’t excited to keep picking this book up. By 40% I expected to be rather invested, but it wasn’t for me.

A story about books? Here I am!

The Library of Borrowed Hearts is a very heartwarming read that celebrates love and second chances.

Chloe is a librarian struggling to stay afloat while raising her younger siblings. She comes across an old library book with notes scrawled in the margins and soon discovers that the notes are a conversation between lovers. Jasper, her neighbor, learns of the book and offers to purchase it from Chloe for a ridiculous sum of money leading Chloe to the conclusion that Jasper might be one of the authors of the secret notes and new story will be discovered.

I enjoyed how it was described the dual time throughout this book and I also enjoyed the characters.

This is a story that I think could appeal a lot of readers just by looking at the book cover and I mean it because it’s so cute!

Least but not last I want to mention the cast narration! The performances were fantastic! I really enjoyed the narration.

Didn't like the ending - wanted a bit more romance for Chloe and the other wasn't exactly a happy ending either, despite how they tried to explain it, so I was dissatisfied.
Don't think it was necessary to switch to noodles viewpoint, felt abrupt.
There were passages that i liked and felt insightful, however I also felt that the author did a bait and switch with the premise and main point of the story... like suddenly more human interest than romance or mystery. Oh well.

Thrilling, Delightful, Inspirational

This beautifully woven story follows modern day Chloe Sampson and her siblings while she unravels secrets from a 1960’s love story. Chloe finds out about more than just a quick fling, but a life-long, complicated devotion between margin writers C and J. The Library of Borrowed Hearts Is a beautiful example of how a multiple point-of-view story should work.

I adored this book. The banter between characters, strong feminist women, aching heart break, and family ties - both biological and found, gave me a reason to turn page after page. It was thrilling. The twist shocked and delighted me. It is one of the sort of books that I wish I could read for the first time all over again.

It has also inspired me to read books mentioned throughout. There’s a list at the end for this exact purpose and I love that it was included.

Truly, my only complaint is the way the margin notes between C and J are organized in the text. It made it difficult to follow along. I’m not sure how to fix the format issue, I just know it annoyed me.

I look forward to reading everything Lucy Gilmore writes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
