I was a little put off when I first started reading this. Although I initially felt hesitant, I'm pleased I persevered and completed it.

The beginning included several mentions of classic literature titles and quotes which I always love in a book. The female lead has assumed custody of her siblings after her selfish mother has left them again. She quickly becomes engrossed in a decades-old love affair documented in exchanges between a couple throughout the pages of several romance and horror novels. As she's trying to solve the mystery of who they were and what happened to them, she is also trying to manage her siblings' problems and the money required to stay afloat, an unpleasant neighbor, and an outdoorsman who seems to be there at the right times but is actually keeping secrets. Unfortunately, it all seemed to evolve very slowly with nonchalant revelations. I enjoyed the themes of found family, second chances, and family secrets though.

Liked it. Thought it was cute and mostly liked the characters. There was one character that I really disliked throughout the book but then at the end was okay with. Overall, a sad but heartwarming story about found family.
