Uma linda história de amor entre um cão e seus supostos "donos". Sou apaixonada por animais, tenho cães e gatos, e uma das coisas que mais gostei neste livrinho é a ideia de que nós não somos proprietários, somos tutores, amigos e responsáveis por nossos animais.

Saw this as part of Kindle Unlimited (Kindle and audio) "The One" series and figured I'd give it a go. I liked it. It did feel a little more like a small autobiographical short story about pets than anything else. It really jumped around, setting up the situation (that the author's dog likes the neighbor more than his owner) then delved into the author's younger years, growing up on a farm, detailing his relationships with animals over the years, coming back to the story of Millie, his dog in the present, and their love triangle.
I didn't totally get the title tie-in ... I mean, there was the "chapter" heading ... “A parable, of course, is a simple story with a clear lesson, and ours couldn’t have been clearer: don’t fall for the animals.” but still, it just seemed an odd title to me. Because "don't fall for the animals" is NOT really the lesson of the story. It is that loving an animals can be a love story.
The author was the narrator of the audiobook. I liked that ... it really did sound like he was telling his own tale (which he was).

This one worked a lot better for me than the previous book in this series of shorts: Jess Walter writes movingly about a dog with no owners who happened to stay with him for a while.
