Another solid instalment by Ilona Andrews. I really like the world with the primes and Alessandro and Catalina relationship is really good. I really hope we get a trilogy with the youngest sister next!

Best Lina book!! The plot was connecting, and family scenes were amazing. I want Mihail and Arabella series today with Leon series, of course.

I'm not sure what to do with myself now that I've finished this series. lol I tried to slow down and savor it, but like all of the other books in this series, I couldn't help myself and burned through it. This review will be vague since I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I can't recommend this series enough!

We get lots of answers in Ruby Fever and also lots of breadcrumbs for where the series might go *if* we ever get more books (please, please, please let there be more in the future!!) We also get cameos from old favorites and introduced to some interesting new characters along the way (I am very intrigued by Mihail and Michael). I loved Catalina's growth and character arc throughout the series and she's such a strong and fierce heroine. The found family in this series is incredible and I want books for everyone! The end was very satisfying and I had a huge smile on my face when I finished. I love the Baylor family and hope this isn't the last time I see them <3

I've said it before, but Catalina's books were narrated so perfectly by Emily Rankin. I've enjoyed listening to this series so much!

Still my favorite trilogy in this world but I really need Ilona Andrew’s to work on their climax battle scenes because they always feel anticlimactic. There’s also a lack of stakes that’s now in both trilogies and. Kate Daniels that cheapens the suspense.

Still fucjing loved and will read Arabella’s trilogy

I can’t find many books by this duo that I dislike. And I loved everything about it, especially Catalina and Alessandro, but there was so much happening that it felt like the entire ending was rushed. I wanted more action and drama for a battle. Overall loved it, I just wish there was more.

Also Arabella better get her own story.

Re-read Jan 2024: Glad to read it again, it was so good. Leon was a hoot as always:
Leon frowned. “You mean like a separate office building? One where we could conduct business and then leave and not be at work? People have such things?”
I sighed.

The gang has found a Compound to call home (which promptly was blown up some). Alessandro has proven himself:
“This is not an heirloom,” Alessandro said with grim sincerity. “I didn’t take it from my family. I designed it for you and had it made. Nobody else has ever worn it and if you say no, nobody ever will.”

and Catalina is dealing with black wings as well as a lot of truths unfolded.
“You got a promotion with extra responsibilities but without pay or additional benefits.” Mom smiled. “I’m so proud of you. You’re officially a successful adult.”

Konstantin joins the cause against Arkan:
“He crossed the line,” Konstantin said. “He was a tame wolf we released back into the forest. As long as he stayed there, we wouldn’t hunt him. He took it upon himself to break into our pasture, kill our sheep, and crap all over our yard. Now we will put him down.”

and is fascinated by House Baylor:
“Clearly, I’m in The Jungle Book,” Konstantin said. “I have met the wolves, the bear, and the panther.”
“Don’t worry, there’s no python.”
He gave me an odd look. “I already met her.”
--------------
“Leave the plates,” Arabella told us. “We’ll clean up. You cooked. It’s only fair.”
“I didn’t know you helped with dinner, cousin,” Konstantin said.
“No, but he made it possible,” Leon said.
Bern turned to Konstantin. “You should speak less.”
“The lack of respect for the crown is appalling.” Konstantin grinned. “I love it.”

I love a grown-up Matilda:
"If you try to separate from her in any way . . .”
“She will bark?” Konstantin asked. “Yes. If she barks for longer than one minute, the electronic sensor in her collar will send an alert. Cutting the collar or removing it will also trigger an alert.”
Matilda stared at him. “If anything happens to Rooster or her collar, I will know. I will come. I will bring friends. I hope we understand each other.”

AND LINUS AND VICTORIA!:
“Vicki,” he said. “Baby . . .”
“Don’t you call me that, you horrible shithead!”
----------
“So why is it called hephaestus magic?” I asked.
“Because making guns is the most fun,” Linus said.
“Both of you lied to me,” I said.
“We lie to everyone. Why should you be different?” Victoria said.

and one of the best scenes ever:
I turned to Konstantin. He raised his hands. “My brother. The Bear of Kamchatka.”
I looked at Alessandro. “Did you know?”
He nodded. “I didn’t think he’d show up.”
Monster Arabella took a running start and slammed into the Russian Bear. The ground shook. They rolled down the hill, ripping, biting, clawing.
Linus got up and walked over to us. His hair was smoking a little bit and his skin was very flushed. “Well,” he said. “That’s something you don’t see every day.”

2022 Review: What another wonderful story- dual release of Ruby Fever and the Innkeeper comics on Tapas. Delivered to me to sooth my aching soul as I am laid low from Covid. I was riveted for a couple of hours.

It’s an end to Catalina and Alessandro’s story and IA had a tall order in wrapping it all up! As always, the family banter is the tops for me, then the love story, and we caught up with Nevada and Rogan and Arthur!

Secrets are revealed about Alessandro, Konstantin, Linus, Cesar, Victoria, Arkan. We get a bloody battle scene that ends well but now I am dying to know about Linus removing his objection. I thought we were angling Arabella towards her and Michael but we had a creative ending (SO funny when Arabella laughs) and we have a fight between 2 monsters.

Loved the spider bit!

I exhibited tremendous self-restraint and didn't stay up on the night of release to binge this until 3am lol. Gave myself a treat after a tiring week of work. Anyway, this was so good! So. Good. I'm a big IA fan and have been their fan for years, since I was a teen. Their writing feels familiar and comforting and I love pretty much everything that they've written. It was wonderful to see the familiar characters and spend time with them again and I spent a blissful four hours disappearing into this book. All the necessary loose ends were tied up and I had a wealth of emotions reading this. When shit starts to hit the fan, IA's writing is so good that my heart actually sped up. So good!!! I loved how the characters were treated and I hope this won't be the last of this world.
