super fun read (listen) about wayfinding: how we get lost, how we find our way, plus the psychology and biology behind it. bond discusses indigenous languages, and how the wayfinding and landmarks are built into them; how skilled nagivators are always paying attention and keeping focus; and how grid cells help us (and mice) keep ourselves oriented. i was really interested in the polynesian navigators and how they use the currents, the stars, and the birds to know where they are. i wish this book was longer and delved more deeply into not just the anthropological aspects, but also the biology and history of wayfinding.

Interesting if a bit slow. I set it aside for quite awhile and returned to enjoy the rest.

Our world's are spatially complex and yet we manage to navigate through our close environment and to find ways to navigate the unknown. here bond explores the cognitive science behind our ability to remember routes and recognise landmarks, explaining how these abilities have helped humans develop as a species. Also he looks at what happens when we lose this ability and the distress it causes. Whilst heavy on the science, this is also a very deep book which looks at fundamental basics of need
