LOVE LOVE LOVE. Elizabeth Gilbert is an amazing writer, and her story is so inspiring. Eat Pray Love is all about self-discovery after losing yourself in relationships and forgetting who you are as an individual. It's so relatable, and the writing does a fantastic job of really making you feel like you're there in Italy, India, and Bali with her. The film adaptation is just as good, which is rare!

I really enjoy hate-reading books sometimes (see also Twilight, the Fifty Shades series, etc) so I thought I knew what i was getting into with this book, but I was completely unprepared to LIKE it.
It has a lot of issues - so much privilege and weird piecemeal cultural appropriation, for starters, and i'm sure plenty of people have dissected it deeply. I definitely don't agree with her perspective on everything and I wouldn't personally do an "eat pray love trip" or whatever (not that i could even if i wanted to!). But i had no idea that a fair amount of her writing on depression, anxiety, and sitting with yourself would resonate with me and actually feel both realistic and hopeful.

I actually really enjoyed this. I had been putting it off because it's small print and the audio book is like 13 or 14 hours. But I really enjoyed this. I was laughing. Got teared up a bit. And actually related to Liss a lot even though I haven't been through a divorce and there is an age difference. She reminded me a lot of myself.
I think this was a bit overwritten. Could have been edited. But it was all important on her journey and I'll definitely be rereading this one.

I liked it much better than I thought I would. Maybe 3.5 stars. Certainly it was a lovely way to spend my commute.
