If you'd have told me when I was 10% through this book that I would end up enjoying it, I'd have thought you were crazy.

If you'd have told me when I was 40% through this book that I would end up enjoying it, I still would have thought you were crazy.

As it is, I pushed through, and I ended up really enjoying it. It picked up about 60% of the way through and ended up being really entertaining. The last half of the book I could hardly put down. The first half....ehhhh... wasn't my particular cup of tea.

Some of the characters make crazy, weird decisions that I really struggled to understand. There were wee bits of fat shaming here and there that I did not appreciate. And there were so many characters that it took me a while to get them all straight (and, to be honest, I still couldn't tell you which cousin belonged to which aunt and uncle, etc.).

But overall, it made sense. Characters' motivations started making more sense, the dialogue got more believable, and it ended up being a good story. I just wish it hadn't taken so long for it to get there. Frankly, I probably would have DNF'd this book if I wasn't reading it for a specific purpose in a reading challenge. But since I was, I pushed through -- and I'm glad I did.

In ‘Delayed Death’ we meet Carlina, the owner of a luxurious lingerie store in Florence, Italy. Carlina has a huge family and her days are filled with spending time at work and dealing with her family. When Carlina’s cousin is getting married Carline helps getting the bride ready for her big day. Unfortunately Carlina finds her grandfather dead in his chair on the day of the wedding. This could destroy her cousin’s entire day. So Carlina, decides to hide his corpse until after the wedding.
This was not one of her brightest ideas since her grandfather appears to have been murdered. Not long after the wedding Carlina finds herself being a suspect in the murderer investigation run by a handsome inspector and she has to prove her innocence.

This book was from the very beginning really fun to read. The writing is easy to understand and I felt myself enjoying the story from the very first page. The characters Beate Boeker described in this book were very easy to love. I don’t have a big family, but reading about this big family and all their quarrels made me miss this. I loved the way the family interacted with each other and how they gossiped away.

The murder investigation was very fun to read. I seriously had no idea who the murderer was, honestly everyone could have done it. Although the romance part in this book is very small, I truly enjoyed Carlina’s and the inspectors interactions. I can’t wait to read more about those two.
This book is very well written and really funny. I honestly laughed like crazy a couple of times. This book definitely gets my recommendation. If you’re a fan of cozy mysteries this book is definitely one for you.

I love a good cozy mystery but I'm not always a fan of the cutesy side of cozies. However, every once in awhile I find a cozy that is just so much fun that the cutesy just really works and I think I've found that in Delayed Death. It reads a bit like a contemporary romance with crazy characters and lots of banter. However, mystery itself is very good and there's an endless list of suspects and motives. I really had no idea of the who until close to the end and I was entertained the entire time. If you like dark and gritty this probably not the book for you. However, if you are looking for a fun mystery or are usually a romance reader but are wanting to read something a bit different this would definitely be a great choice. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes and seeing more of Carlina, her beautiful store and her wacky family.

I don't know if I liked this book or not.
The plot was nice but I'm a bit biased as the description of Italian people was really over the top (I'm Italian).
I supposed it'd be appreciated by non Italian people.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley

Recommended to me by Goodreads itself I was curious and tried book 1 for a reduced price. And I liked it a lot.

Carlina lives in Italy with her big crazy family and has a little store called Temptation where she sells lingerie. On the day her cousin Emma gets married, both girls discover grandpa in his chair - dead. Because Emma is freaking out over her wedding Carlina helps her cousin to put grandfather in his bed - to be discovered after Emma has left for her honeymoon. She does not like it, but understands her cousins wedding will be ruined...

However, the next day the police is called after grandfathers brother cries foul play and Carlina is shocked to find out her grandfather was poisoned... and she is the main suspect for lying about the time of death and moving the body! The attractive Stefano Garrini is the detective and charge and believes someone in Carlina's family has done grandfather in.

Very nice cozy and I liked the attraction between Carlina and Garrini. Have bought the next.
