Okay, wow! This book rendered any qualms I had about ACOTAR obsolete. This book swept me away. It is masterfully put together with its slow burning romance, exciting adventure and intricate plot.

This story begins with a much darker vibe than the first, as Feyre is desperately trying to make sense of the horrors she endured Under the Mountain. She is clearly struggling, filled with dark thoughts about herself, about what transpired and the choices she felt forced to make. She worries that her actions transformed her into a monster, undeserving of love or anything good. And there is no doubt she has changed. Yet, her dear Tamlin seems to not even notice her struggle. Instead of helping her when she needs it most, he selfishly imprisons her and ignores her suffering under the guise of protection.

Tamlin, Tamlin, Tamlin... I once thought your name was nice but now it's just sour on my tongue. Tamlin becomes the true villain in this story; the selfish beast with anger management problems and a distorted understanding of love.

Rhysand becomes Feyre's saviour, once again, though it takes some time for Feyre to make sense of his intentions. I won't go into too much detail, but the dynamic between Rhys, Tamlin and Feyre in the beginning of the novel is palpable and intense; it had me incredibly emotionally invested, and quite literally rejoicing when Feyre escapes Spring Court.

Rhysand is delicious in this novel. He's clearly written by a woman, but I don't care. Heterosexual men would do well to take note: He is powerful beyond measure, suave and confident, compassionate, and willing to risk anything for the wellbeing of the people he cares for. He swoops in and provides Feyre with sanctuary and safety when she needs it most. He anticipates her needs constantly, and enacts a cautious persistence to help her thrive while respecting her boundaries and empowering her to make her own choices. Oh yeah, also he has wings.

With Rhys' support, Feyre slowly cracks open, strengthens, and starts to heal. I loved witnessing Feyre rise up throughout this novel. The ending was unexpected, eventful and emotional! I can't wait for Feyre to bring vengence in the next book.

The ending of this book was enough fun to make me forgive or forget some fraction of the annoyances of the rest.
