there’s no mistake for me on that book

I almost put this book down, but I’m glad that I didn’t. There are certain moments that are so dark maybe unnecessarily so. It’s hard to reconcile the past of this character with their present. That I’ll being sad I think the world is quite interesting, the characters have depth, and it’s definitely worth a read.

Leigh Bardugo's writing chops are as strong as ever - strong enough to keep me going even amid unbuilt characters and a few too many sexual assault cases that were never remarked upon again afterward. The intended audience might just be Yale alums like Bardugo herself.

the book is pretty slow to start since there’s a lot of world building that has to be done. but toward the middle i understood what we were working with and i find her detail to be very impressive. i really like the main character and how flawed she is. i wish there was more of darlington but it sounds like ill get that in the sequel. solid spooky fantasy!
