I really enjoyed the down to earth approach of this book. There were alot of 'golden nuggets' that I took away to help me both professionally and personally.
The author has a good amount of useful information with applicable tools to help you be more present and successful. She claims there is a third metric to success (besides money and power) of which there are 4 pillars.
I recently read the Untethered Soul by Michael Singer and I noticed Huffington used the same verbiage for the voice in your head as you “roommate”. She explained it almost exactly as Singer did leaving me feeling like she low key plagiarized the idea. besides that, I appreciated that she supported many of her recommendations with studies and I overall enjoyed the book

I really wanted to like this book more. Over the past few months, my friends and I have had endless discussions about work burnout, stress, success, and what we want for our futures. When I saw what this book was about, I knew I had to read it.
At the start of the book, I was head over heels for it. It focused on everything that my friends and I have been struggling with lately. It explained so many of the emotions that we have felt and explained why we know these are not healthy things. There were concrete examples of changes made and good scientific research to back up the claims made. It was awesome.
But once the "Well-Being" section of the book finished, I found myself a bit more skeptical of the rest of the book. There was less "This is a change that I made and here is how I did it" and more "This is something I've always done and you can start too!" I felt that for me, personally, more concrete examples on how to actually make these changes would have been helpful.
I fully agree with Ms. Huffington that we need to redefine success. I think she is correct in saying that we need to learn to thrive instead of just survive. From myself and my friends to my parents and my teenage sisters, everyone I know is experiencing such intense levels of stress. I look at my sisters and realize that I was not nearly as stressed out as they are now. And I have no idea how I am going to handle stress when I get to be my parents age because my generation has started several steps behind theirs.
I think there are a lot of good points in this book and I think that it can serve as a benefit to many people. In fact, I'll still recommend that my sister read this book before going to college this fall. I think Ms. Huffington could have done a lot more with this material though and I think it would have been a real benefit if she had.

Oh my. Easily one of my favourite books of all time. This book came at a time when I didn't know I needed it. There is no guidelines or correct way to go about living your life in such a fast paced world where we are constantly connected with burnout striking almost every working person, and this books really hones in on how we need to re-align ourselves and become more in tune to the wonders of the world around us and appreciate the moments that we have. Already from this book I've developed a new morning routine, began meditating again after almost three years, have re-assessed what is important to me in life and have reenforced to myself that my four month break off of Instagram is only doing me the world of good. I implore everyone to read this book - you won't regret it and I feel like a weight has been lifted as I take the steps now to fully embrace my life.

Sometimes a story of burnout is actually a story of resilience from burnout. Though Arianna Huffington describes her literal collapse and resulting injuries as a mixture of burnout and exhaustion, from the outside, it seems like just exhaustion, not burnout. That’s the opening context for the transformation that led Huffington to write Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder. The first two metrics are money (wealth) and power. They’re the temple guards of our society and have been with us for what seems like eternity.

For what seemed like a book half written in quotations, the insight was interesting. Thrive is absolutely geared towards an older audience.

After building an online empire such as the Huffington Post, you’d think Arianna would be well-versed in overwork and burnout. You’d be right. Which is exactly why this book came to fruition.
Arianna talks candidly about her experiences and what she’s learned from her mistakes in work and life. Throughout Thrive she talks about sleep, meditation, social media and more to encourage the reader to seek more balance in life and work.
Encouragingly Arianna calls on science and other authors to frequently back up her own stories. I only wish she shared more stories to balance it out.

This book combines businesswoman, mother, science, work, success and balance into one book. It shares small insight into Arianna’s life but would be worth reading if any of the above list interests you.

Another great read from Arianna Huffington. I enjoy her writing, her thorough research, her personal anecdotes, her sister Agape's reading (I listened to the audio version), and her enthusiasm for sharing a message she believes to be of such value. This book gives a wonderful "how to" expand your experience of life without the unnecessary stress and hurried approach promoted by mostly everyone around you. Enjoy, breathe deeply, be present, accomplish a lot, and get enough sleep. Sign me up for that option!
Great, easy to read book on why success is more than money and power with specific steps to help you thrive
