I hated this book.
It felt like the author wrote it while only thinking about incest with a grandfather. It was so gross the whole time, and really bad writing

I would like to think that Francis and Noemi were finally happy and lived a long life togther. A life where they never saw golden in each other’s eyes and they were happy, without the haunting of High Place.

This book had me scared of turning the page to read about what would come next. I loved the characters, well some you’ll find out who after you read it. It kept me on my toes always surprised me and I loved it!

This book was a perfect gothic novel with an amazing plot. I highly suggest it!!
the only thing is that the whole mushroom plotwist wasn't really a plotwist and kinda anticipated from the beginning of th book.

Brilliant atmosphere, creepy stuff, a crumbling mansion, dark family secrets, so much gothic ambiance, strong sisterly bonds, and straight up horror - this is Mexican Gothic.

I put off reading this for ages because it was so heavily hyped. I can see why it is compared to Rebecca. It is PERFECT for someone who loves that classic but feels up for something a little bonkers and at times, downright gross. An ideal October read that got a little too out there towards the end for me, but was still ultimately a very satisfying and memorable yarn.

It's a good premise, the execution isn't much a "horror" but more like a mystery that happens to be inside a creepy mansion. There's several instances of body horror though so be wary of that. The main character is compelling enough and the mystery is beautifully done although it feels slow paced at the beginning and then too fast in the end.
I personally thought the ending was a bit corny, but I'm also not a big fan of horror anyway so.
