If you’re coming to the reviews like I did to see if you’re alone… you’re not! This book was such a disappointment from the way people have talked about it. If you’re in the middle of reading this thinking the third act is going to save it, it doesn’t.

Had me on the edge of my seat. I both wanted to throw the book across the room due to the unsettling nature of the subject matter and read another page to know what will happen.

I like that in the end, there was no one person being the grand hero. Everyone had their moment. All I'm thinking at the end of the story is they better not have kids together. Cause I know that it will come again down the bloodline. Also, all three of their bodies better be burnt when they die

Brilliant, grotesque, novel, and straight up nasty. Wonderful strong female protagonist, truly hatable villains, and scenes to make you wish you hadn't eaten dinner. Rounded characters all, incredible science and folklore, and an enticing and constantly evolving plot. Strong recommend!

This book was haunting and unsettling, but I found myself having trouble putting it down. There are so many facets to the story and I enjoyed them all — the way Moreno-Garcia conveyed and wrote this story was beautiful. I’m not a frequent horror reader, so parts of this book caught me by surprise and were pretty unsettling, but it all in all was a great story.
