A friend gifted this to me as ‘a refreshing book that’s different from what I usually read’. I picked it up as an easy night read, but this was _not_ an easy read at all despite its deceivingly short length. A reinterpretation / extension of a selection of Aesop’s fables, this was terrifying and interesting and tragic - all in one tiny volume.

Some thoughts:
- I was particularly affected by the reinterpretation of the fable of the hound and its master, because, oh my goodness.
- The fable of the dog and its reflection was also one of the few that hit hard.
- & one of the most disturbing for me had to be the one about the donkey, the son, and his father.

An eerily beautiful and thought-provoking collection.
