I didn't like that the aliens were trying to get them. I wanted to know more about the chocolate and candy.

If you read the first book and was like, "Wow, that was good, but I really wish they focused on the other grandparents more. Also, it needs space aliens, American stereotypes, a quick plot change, etc.," then this might be for you. Having already felt kind of let down by the first book, I completely hated this and I understand why no one talks about it ever.
There are two main plotlines in the book - the gang trying to survive in the elevator in space and the grandparents (minus Grandpa Joe) being selfish with youth-revitalizing pills. The first plotline finishes abruptly and moves on to the second one, which kind of comes out of nowhere. Once the second one is over the first is swiftly reintroduced, which made this read super choppy. I might have liked this more had it been one or the other, but it really was two different stories in one book.
Pretty much anything that really made the first book stand out wasn't present here, so it's no surprise that this book is basically a fun fact.

Can't believe Willy Wonka, a nearly-starving kid named Charlie Bucket, 2 middle-aged peeps and 4 grandparents outsold NASA-trained astrophycists and astronauts
(Charlie and the Great Glass Space Rocket can also be an alternative title to this)

Took an unusual dip into the world of children’s fiction, and it was interesting! I was fairly captivated by the writing and the plot, but I think the overall let down is I like a bit more complexity or dare I say point to what happens in the story. But maybe that’s too much to expect from a children’s book? I can’t help but think of Emily Rodda and her Rowan of Rin series which is in my opinion the perfect children’s series, adventurous fun and has all sorts of themes explored. Same with Lemony Snicket.
The glass elevator into space was whimsical and quirky. The humour was a little dated and fell flat. The second part of the book with the de-aging pills was so random after the space adventure.
