THIS BOOK FUCKING ATEEEEEE I NEED MORE PEOPLE TO BE TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK!!!! I have never seen a concept like this executed in another book. That being said, I really appreciated the originality of what this story is about

Just wow. I’ve been in a major book slump for the last two months and this book took me swiftly out of it! I love the romance, the characters, the world, the magic system… it’s all absolutely sublime and I devoured every page of it!! I’m a sucker for a Rebecca Ross book, and this one absolutely did not disappoint… easily one of my new favorites! Please give this book a read!!! Amazing work Rebecca! 💙

This book did not live up to my expectations... I LOVED the Divine Rivals duology and was excited to read this-- this book was fine but I often found myself telling characters out loud to shut up and rolling my eyes.
The plotline was predictable and had so much wasted potential. Also, the characters were awful. I hated Clem and all of the other characters were wonderful but had no development.
The magic system was not discussed in depth enough even though it was fascinating.
For the most part, I think this book just needed to be a series instead of a standalone. There wasn't enough time to do this story justice in one book. Because it was a wonderful story, just not told well.

I loved this book so much. It had so many warm and homey feelings and I couldn't help but absolutely adore the characters. Clem especially was a favorite. Clem and her father live in a world where magicians are charged with documenting nightmares because every new moon the nightmares come to life. The magic system was super original to me and I loved it. I am obsessed with dreams and nightmares and having them fight said nightmares every new moon was amazing.
But this new moon is different and two rival magicians challenge Clem's father for his position as warden. When he and clem lose the position she makes it her goal to make the men suffer. Disguising herself as someone else she infiltrates the home of Phelan as his partner. But nothing is as it seems and Phelan grabbed my heart and crushed it pretty quickly (He definitely gives Howl from Howl's Moving Castle vibes). Even Clem is not wholly indifferent to his charms either and together they must work to unravel a centuries old curse to save their land.
Love, love, loved it. And you will too.

"Dreams Lie Beneath" is a fantasy YA adventure that brings to mind Sorcery of Thorns and Caraval.
Somehow, Rebecca Ross can create some magical realms that are simply delicious and they help the story that can be just a simple fairy story, and yet, in her hands, it becomes something extraordinary. She also has interesting characters, and this one was no exception. Sure, she had some darker moments, but she was likable and realistic. Also, the magic system was exceptional and had many little details that made things even more intriguing.
On the other hand, and as this one was a standalone, things escalated way too fast and it made things conclude rushly and the twists did not develop organically.
