Wow. This book was just incredible - as soon as I picked it up I could not put it down again. Easily a 10/10 - a heart-warming and moving story about two resilient women. I loved the author's writing style and felt as if I was there with the characters, picturing and living through every scene.

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”

A very moving and compelling story that u just can’t help but feel connected too.

The themes in this books are portrayed with immense realism. The characters feel like very real people which elevates the story tenfold.

Mariam and Laila are both unfair victims of their environment and sex, which makes this so much more heartbreaking

Their struggles left such a profound effect on me, the saddest thing abt this book is the fact that Mariam and Laila’s story are fictional yet real in the same way. These things happened and are STILL happening which makes me feel sick and disgusted.

This is a story that encompasses more than just its themes and its plot, it’s a story that brings awareness to the suffering of many women all around the world. It really makes u think and appreciate what u have and I’ll forever be grateful for that fact.

Read at your own risk.

I remember reading Kite Runner in high school and loving it more than I expected; so I wasn't surprised when I loved this book. I did read Kite Runner a while ago so I didn't notice many similarities between the two that I've seen people mention in other reviews. It's not a topic that I normally read much about so I liked reading about what it's like in Afghanistan from someone whose actually lived there before and knows the people/customs.
