A lot of the lower reviews I saw criticized Daisy for being a bad friend. I was so glad she finally called Aza on her crap! Having a mental illness does not give you a free pass to be a bad friend. Aza got on my nerves, but that’s the point. People with mental illnesses are sometimes hard to love, but they are deserving of love. Overall, I liked the book a lot. I liked all of the blog posts from Davis and I appreciated that to him and Noah, knowing the truth was more important than the money.
pretty good! it at least kept me interested the entire time.
i felt that the way green conveyed a character with ocd and anxiety was amazing!!!!! i've truly not read such an appropriate portrayal of how debilitating both of those things can be. the reader empathized right along with aza's struggles and you were able to really get into her mind and begin to rationalize her incessant thoughts. it was almost tooooo good at times and a little (at least for me, it could be more for others) triggering. just because it felt like you were also falling with her down this spiral.
green shines with his character study and with that being said, i did think his plot lacked incentive, inspiration...much of anything. it felt like we left the plot to learn more about the characters and deepen their relationships with one another, only to jump back and be like "wait! oh yeah! this is a murder mystery". idk it felt half assed in a way. i would rather it have been all mystery or all character study.
eh. either way, i love john green and i have now read everything he's written!!!!!! amazing. truly a young adult literature god in our midst.

John Green will always amaze me with his knowledge and ability to integrate himself into characters, a beautiful and heart wrenching depiction of mental illness and truly a piece of art.

I thought this book would finally make me love John Green's books, like everyone else seems to love them. It had everything I love: a troubled main character, an intriguing friendship and most importantly a good mystery. But like in every other John Green book I've read it had to be ruined by the love story. It takes up more of the story than what I would like for it to. These are teenagers, not two 15th century poets who fell in love.
The only thing that made me want to finish this book was the description of mental health, which is extraordinary in this book. It is not only accurate, but it describes it in a way I never could or never will be able to do.
Nice quotes too, but other than that: :/
