Maybe it was the distance, maybe it was the story, but this volume didn't grab me like the first. The Enemy Within isn't bad by any stretch; I just don't think anyone will read it and dream of growing up to be Captain Marvel.

Which kind of sucks to say when Kamala is teased, probably for the first time.

I didn’t really care for this.

The art for Captain Marvel’s Comic was a bit harsh. More so on the women than the men.

This features Yon-Rogg who was featured in the film. They did his story differently there, of course. It was nice to see the Avengers coming together to help. I liked seeing Jessica support Carol but that’s about it. I didn’t really latch onto to anything here and there weren’t any parts that I found spectacular.

Hi, I love Kelly Sue DeConnick and Carol Danvers. I also love a really heart-warming lead-in to Kamala's Ms. Marvel. I was pretty middle of the road with the first two volumes of the 2012 run, but this brings those first two volumes together in such a satisfying way. I am completely in love with this, and it just makes me really excited to see DeConnick's Captain Marvel on the big screen.

Maybe more of a 4,5/5, but that issue #17 was just about perfect.

In a team-up with the avengers, The Enemy Within finishes the initial Captain Marvel arc by DeConnick with one hell of a fight. The medical issues which have been plaguing Carol are finally revealed to be the work of an old enemy and now Carole and the other Avengers must work against time to stop him before they lose both Captain Marvel and the Earth.

This is easily the most action-packed volume of the arc as it finally ties together the loose ends concerning Carol and the brain lesion that was revealed in Down. While I enjoyed the interaction between her and the other Avengers, it's still a mythos set-up and doesn't give Carol as much room to be herself as to be the inspiring, heroic Captain Marvel that everyone looks up to. Which is fine, I guess. Just not the part of her that I find interesting. The art wasn't as awful as Andrade's but nothing to write home about either.

Now that I'm done with this initial Captain Marvel run, I appreciate the set-up that it created for Captain Marvel even if I didn't enjoy it as much as the next series. It was good to see hints of the personality and humor that make Carol so much fun later on and to get a better sense of her background.

So the conclusion to the first Danvers Captain Marvel run...

Outstanding. I love this book. The setup in Down comes to fruition here, and it's all worthwhile, even if like Ms Marvel from almost a decade ago, it's dipping into the well of its own mythology a little much rather than building something new.

That reads like a criticism and I suppose it is, but the execution is handled with a masterful touch here and the climax is pitch perfect in its heroism and showcasing tremendous strength of character. It's Carol at her best. Sometimes you have to re-visit a character's past to build their future.

The art is a wild collage of good and weird, and funny enough, my favorite panel is not one of my favorite artists and isn't even the lead character. There's a panel where Spider Woman is pouncing onto a Kree sentry and zapping it with both hands. It's one of the most kinetic, badass, and - almost counter-intuitively - adorable panels I've seen in any comic ever. I want it giant, clean and on my wall. It's that awesome.

Anyway, this book is an excellent capstone to Pursuit and Down, and if you like Captain Marvel or the Avengers, it's a great read.

This was a pretty great conclusion to the Captain Marvel storyline. And despite the title on the cover being Avengers, this really is the third Captain Marvel volume. I went into this without having read any Avengers before and did just fine. I'm pretty sure the same would not apply if you had read Avengers but not Captain Marvel and picked this up. So I'm not really sure why they chose to title this as an Avengers book. Maybe to cash in on the Avengers popularity? Anyways, I thought this did a great job of wrapping up the whole storyline with Carol Danvers and establishing her as Captain Marvel. I liked that the new Ms. Marvel made a teensy appearance during the final showdown and then a bit of a more significant appearance at the very end. Also, I really loved Spider-Woman. I haven't read too much Marvel, so I've never run across her before, but I will definitely looking for more of her though as well as more of Captain Marvel.

That was GOOD. Almost gave it a 4 because the alternating art styles kinda put me off... but I loved how it ended.
