Hooked at the beginning, got stagnant in the middle, but had a goodish end.

I read this because it's so highly rated but... I didn't really love it.

Don't get me wrong, it was hot. But that's as far as it goes. So 3 stars for smexy scenes.

Otherwise, the plot was not for me. I would have loved some more reasons to fall in love besides super hot sex and attraction. I also would have adored some actual bonding moments with other characters. Logan's brother. Tate's co-workers. Tate's family. Lots of opportunities for real connection that were sacrificed for the sake of sexual tension.

Also the POV changes were too much! By the end I kept getting who's who confused, especially since everything was in 3rd person.

This was a 3.5 star read for me, the book was HOT no doubt about it but I was wanting a bit more.I am sure hoping the next book expands on the emotional side that was struggling to break thru.

i’ll take unsuspecting cliffhangers for $800… seriously what the fuck was that!?! i’m actually mad and not in a silly haha way. that was bullshit.

too bad i didn’t like the book enough to even warrant me carrying out with the series… this was bad. it was almost entirely smut, which makes a little sense now that im finding out this is only the first part of their story… but still, i felt nothing between them except sexual attraction. they hardly know anything about each other at all and there was no genuine connection besides the sex.

even worse, though, was logan. oh my god he’s terrible. actually The Worst. i can read asshole arrogant characters, but he was on a whole other level. combine that with the fact that he could never apologize in a way that didn’t seem coerced or halfassed and i’m not rooting for him or understanding why tate likes him at all

i would be a little interested to see how tate deals with his family and coming out to them. i really hate the trope in mm books where the women are all used as evil villains, but diana truly is a piece of work for threatening to out tate to his family. but anyway- i don’t have it in me to sit through another long ass book about logan being a terrible lover/boyfriend/person/whatever while tate deals with a genuinely difficult situation.

all that and this was so unnecessarily crude. the opening scene almost did me in. in what world does anyone want to open a mm book and read about a dude balls deep in some other girl? or guy for that matter? anyone? why would we want to read about someone who isn’t the main characters??

oh and don’t even get me started on how pushy logan was in the beginning. after about the seventh time tate told logan to stop flirting with him, it began to get very uncomfortable. all im saying is if tate had been a woman, everyone would rightfully lose their minds over logan’s inability to take no for an answer. he was a weirdo!!

not good. and i’m still pissed this author tricked people into a cliffhanger… at least put a warning for it in the blurb like normal people do

Sexy banter for the win!

I love romance and adventure more than anything. This book really does not fill those quotas and yet I still love it and gave it 5 stars. Why? Because I’m a push over for sexy banter and this book has it in spades, 5586 locations (because pages mean nothing to me anymore) of sexy banter. Sexy bartender meet even sexier lawyer in black frame glasses and stylish suit. I will be happy to read this book over and over again and that always elicits five stars from me.

Somewhere along the way, amidst all of their witty comebacks and sexual innuendos (and my clutching my ribs from the pain of laughter), the fascination with these two very different masculine main characters overwhelmed me. They both had their baggage. Past familial and personal relationship problems affected both of these men in some very damaging ways to bring them both to this point in their lives when they encounter each other and find something together that they never expected.

They make a lot of miscommunication missteps in their journey towards each other, jealousy, rumor, covers, pride, etc.; but these obstacles felt real not contrived. Relationship issues we see everyday in life. What impressed me about these two characters, and I suppose this speaks to their maturity, which I look for in reading these days, is that once the initial knee-jerk reaction of anger passed, they would admit the problem in a straight-forward way and apologize.

“You hurt me today. I knew she would, but I didn’t expect you to.”
“I know…I know I did.”

“I’m sorry for not saying everything that I should have…Things like[--]this is serious, and he’s so much more than just some fun…I’m sorry I said those things, and I’m sorry you heard it.”

Amidst all the supposed banter of meaningless words and sex talk, I felt true raw emotion from both of these guys and what they were going through. And those emotions are romance and adventure in their own way. Right at home in both the characters’ and the readers’ hearts. “Because.”

And as a side comment to Tate. “I smoke when I drink”--“You’re not drinking”… “I smoke when I’m anxious”--“What are you nervous about?” … “I smoke when I’m satisfied”… Dude, you’re a smoker! Own it. It may not be the “in” thing these days but there are readers who smoke or formerly smoked and we get it. Some people hate it. Some people don’t care. Just like everything else in life. You can’t make everyone happy any or all of the time.

Of course, this is a trilogy. Why is everything a trilogy these days? Now I have to read the next book.

Try is the first book I’ve read by Ella Fox and only my second m/m book. It pushed me a little bit out of my comfort zone, but it was impossible for me to put down.

Logan is a virile bisexual. He really enjoys sex, but only of the hit it and quit it variety. He has sex frequently and is accustomed to having anyone he wants, anytime he wants, anywhere he wants. Tate is a straight, recently divorced new bartender at the bar Logan frequents. When Logan sees Tate, he decides he has to have him and won’t stop at anything until he gets Tate to try a little man on man action.

Tate puts up a good fight, but you just know he doesn’t stand a chance against Logan’s persistence and magnetism. Tate’s frustration and hostility toward Logan as he tries to resist Logan’s blatant advances creates wonderful tension and some of the most exciting moments in the book.

I’m surprised my Kindle didn’t go up in flames because I don’t think I’ve ever read a book this hot. I felt like I needed a cigarette, and I don’t even smoke. There’s raunchy sex – lots and lots of dirty sex – so if you blush easily, walk away now. I’m conflicted on the amount of sex scenes in this book. It really is excessive but also very much in keeping with Logan’s sexual appetite. There’s a sense of desperation and wonder as Tate ventures into this completely foreign experience. I could understand why he would want to spend as much time as possible exploring their intimate relationship. I just wish they spent an equal amount of time outside the bedroom. To genuinely fall for someone and want to change your lifestyle for them, you have to learn what makes the other person tick, their likes and dislikes, and their history. I don’t feel that was accomplished convincingly enough.

Ella Frank’s writing is stellar. Her unique approach to writing the story in the third person while seamlessly interweaving alternating first person monologues is extremely effective. Try is one addictive, erotic, and emotional book. I’m off to read the next book in the series, [b:Take|17798654|Take (Temptation, #2)|Ella Frank|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1390789525s/17798654.jpg|24898064]!

Whew!!! Fanning myself over here. That was freakin' hot! Gay for you stories can be a dicey proposition but this one definitely worked. I'm drooling buckets over the chemistry between these two. It just flies off the page. Logan is a snarky egotistical ass but somehow still endearing. Tate is a bundle of confusion at first but he makes up his mind about something he's all in, strong and determined.

I really enjoyed this buildup so much. Logan is pushy and doesn't take no for an answer. He always gets the woman or man that he wants. Even knowing Tate is straight isn't enough to deter him from his goal. He's determined to make the sexy bartender his for a night. But the tables end up turned on him when a night doesn't end up being enough.

Tate's awesome in how he handles things. I loved his indignation at times, his unwilling curiosity, and the utter temptation he can't walk away from. I enjoyed seeing him crumble under the relentless wall that is Logan. But once Tate makes up his mind he's totally committed to his cause. Once he's given himself leave to want Logan he doesn't question it even knowing the problems it'll cause with his family.

Such a wonderful start to a series and I can't wait to read more of these two guys. Heart poundingly hot! 4.5 stars that I'm rounding up for sexiness.
