I thought this was a well planned book. The descriptions of the white southern women and the black southern maids were great. Their personalities made them very relatable. And while the moral of the story is: we are the HUMAN race before we are any other race….it also was Hell Hath No Furry as a Woman’s Scorn. No matter what color we come in, women can be vengeful, plotting, hateful, rude, mean and several other “bad” adjectives – while smiling in your face.

"The Help," che possiamo definire un classico della letteratura americana, è un libro pieno di emozioni, di rabbia e di ingiustizie.
La storia, ambientata negli anni '60 in Mississippi, ha come protagoniste due domestiche afroamericane e una donna bianca. Il romanzo ci racconta la vita di queste donne di colore e delle ingiustizie che sono costrette a subire.
Queste due donne, che sono le protagoniste, diventano le portavoci di tutta la comunità di donne che vivono in Mississippi, costrette a lavorare per le donne bianche, sottopagate e discriminate. Le persone di colore infatti possono circolare solo nei loro quartieri, frequentare i loro supermercati e i loro ospedali. Inoltre, crescono i figli delle donne bianche con amore come se fossero i propri, per poi essere costrette ad abbandonarli o a vederli crescere imparando a discriminare la gente di colore.
Questo libro, con la protagonista bianca che è l'alias dell'autrice, si impone come un libro di cambiamento, l'inizio di una vita migliore per le donne e un gesto di rivalsa.
Il libro mi è piaciuto tantissimo, ho apprezzato anche lo stile di scrittura che usa termini duri nei confronti delle donne e delle persone di colore, in modo da essere il più reale possibile. Riuscendo in questo modo a colpire profondamente chi sta leggendo, che soffre con le protagoniste, si arrabbia e desidera portare un cambiamento in una cultura così ingiusta.
Consiglio decisamente questo libro a tutti, perché nonostante sia ambientato negli anni '60, affronta tematiche che sono ancora attuali e che la società deve necessariamente cambiare.

Such an amazing book. Full of enlightenment about the old days when black people were treated like shit yet very entertaining. What can I say about the characters? Each has its own uniqueness and wittiness. This book made me so furious yet it made me laugh like crazy, special that crazy help Minny I loved what she did to Hilly hehe

I’ve heard this book is gonna be a movie, and immediately I imagined Nicole Kidman as “Skeeter” but when I’ve checked, the role was done by Emma stone. Can’t wait for the movie to come out

I thought this was a wonderful book that just missed the mark at the end. I was expecting a bigger twist (babies switched at birth or some unexpected act of valor), so I was a bit disappointed that it all just slowed to a stop. However, that does not change the fact that Stockett's writing is a pleasure and her characters are charming and interesting. It's a bit frightening how easily I could imagine myself a part of Minny and Skeeter's world.

I stayed up so late every night to read this. I went away for a weekend down to the beach and laid out reading reading reading. Great book that I just could not put down!
