In 2022, I now know that this book has some problematic elements, but I still enjoyed reading it at the time. I was 17 and excited to have a book for English class that was not boring or impossible to understand. I do not want to change my rating because I do not remember the book well enough to make a judgment truly, but I also do not want to support the book by rereading it, so I will just leave the rating as is but leave this review.

i love love love this book and the story it tells. it's truly a topic that no one should shy away from because we deserve to feel ashamed of our history while simultaneously needing to learn from it. hilly, you deserve to eat a million of minnie's pies!
just finished this one over the weekend! I love how each character has their own "voice" and you can tell who is speaking just by reading their words. (aka no chapter titles necessary) this book is one of the best books i have every read and will deffinatly read over and over again!

Such a fantastic book that should have a place reserved on anyone’s reading list! I cannot say enough good things about this book. There’s so many different perspectives and stories interwoven into this novel that makes it all the more special.
I couldn't put it down. I loved reading about these three women's lives and the project they decide to undertake. A really good read.
