Paper Palace is pitched as the story of a women, a mother, a wife who engages in an affair with a man who is her oldest friend and possibly her soul mate. This however, is one of many stories. This book should come with a trigger warning as it explores many horrors of life. I worry for people who have picked up this book thinking it is a romance telling the story of a forbidden love affair.

I'm stunned so many people rated this story so highly. It felt like a lot of very privileged people with very little, arguably no growth. At the end there is an epilogue that discusses that a book should have a beginning, a middle and an end, with the end linking to the beginning. The link between the beginning and end is that it lefts the characters in the exact same spot. An extremely frustrating ending. In the end the Paper Palace is a book that I read that I wouldn't bother returning to.

So sad, but also so beautiful. I don’t know what to make of it all… the story or the ending. The first book was so hard for me — Elle seemed so cold, and then her story unfolded reminding me, as the best books do, that there is always more to a person’s story than what initially meets the eye. I’m glad I continued reading when I was thinking of putting it down.
