Thank you to Level Best Books, the author, Alison Schaffir and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC for an honest review. These opinions are 100% my own and I do understand that some people do like this book, I did try very hard to get into it but it just wasn't for me. I did finish the book after several days of forcing myself to read it in hopes that I would like it.
I do wish that this book had a trigger page prior to the book starting for those who may suffer from trauma due to rape or other domestic violence. I know it wasn't much, but for some that could be a lot to bring back old memories.
My main issue with this book is that I really felt that it had nothing to do with the main character mentioned in the blurb about the book. The beginning of this book was very much so about Scarlett, who is supposedly 17 but let's get real acts like she is more like 14-15, who meets this mystery older boy Nathaniel while poking around the theatre room. That only lasted for roughly 2 chapters then we spent the majority of the book discussing hre and her best friends and then them fighting and working it out. which is fine but to me I took this book as a journey of Scarlett from zero to knowing all the stops (which happened but it was barely talked about) in the world of fashion and her career.
Also when it comes to high school drama I do not know a single group of students where EVERY SINGLE conflict gets resolved.. not a single grudge is held. This left me wanting more, more drama, more conflict and more to the plot of the book. Even finding out that Nathaniel was going to college and family was moving left little to be desired. Very anticlimactic.
Overall 3 stars and definitely not my favorite read of the month.

“One day, this chapter in my life might seem like a distant memory: a hazy picture no longer in focus“
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book!
A must-read for theatre kids! An amazing debut novel, with loveable characters. The characters feel real, with them having flaws that are spoken about and addressed throughout the book.
The romance between the two main characters was sweet, with it’s ups and downs. I love how this books shows the reality of love, and how it is rarely ever perfect.
One thing however,
Moderate: Sexual assault

Thank you to Level Best Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review of ‘YOUR DREAM OF ME’.
While somewhat predictable at times, Alison Schaffir’s combination of a love for writing, fashion, and theatre shines through brightly in this debut story. I was incredibly excited to read this story from the moment I heard the description because of my own personal connections with theatre and fashion — while I’ve never been good at either, I love watching both. Scarlett is an incredibly dynamic main character, and each one of her relationships with other characters shines brightly. Her relationship with Nathaniel is beautiful, and it’s easy to see how much he absolutely adores her. Her friendship with Macie shined brightest as the best part of the book for me, with the way that both girls absolutely treasure one another and their connection first and foremost. Scarlett’s support for Macie is unwavering, and the support between the two of them is incredibly important to see. I definitely recommend adding this story to your 2023 TBR’s, ‘YOUR DREAM FOR ME’ releases March 7, 2023.

I was fortunate enough to receive this book as an ARC through NetGalley. Thank you to Level Best Books for this in exchange for an honest review! As a debut novel for Alison Schaffir, this book comes right out of the gate. Scarlett is a dynamic young girl, wanting to learn more about the world and her future in her own way and time, something that I know firsthand is a huge experience for many older high school students. Fashion has always been so interesting to me, and with many close friends who absolutely adore theatre, it’s grown on me quite a bit as well, making this story even more interesting. While I wish we really got to see more of the behind the scenes of the play, as well as more of Scarlett really learning to design clothing, the references to many well-known fashion and theatre medias were an absolute joy. I loved her relationship with Nathaniel dearly, and the biggest highlight of this book had to be her friendship with Macie and their absolute adoration and support for one another. Macie is such a beautifully written supporting character and every interaction between the two girls made me so nostalgic. They were beautiful. I highly recommend adding this story to your TBR’s and preordering Your Dream For Me, coming out March 7, 2023.
