Thought I had read volume 3. Turns out I had not. So I was mostly confused for the first 20 pages, but did manage to catch onto the story. The leg-thing was so nerve-wrecking gosh!

My least favourite volume so far. The way Carol and Michonne are written is pretty terrible. The tv adaptation did a much better job with portraying them. The Rick and Tyrese fight and Rick’s speech at the end were the best parts in this volume. Hopefully I’ll enjoy the next one better.
It's been a few months since I read Volume 3, and I remember really liking that one as well. But this was probably my second favorite volume in the series so far (after the first).
In this one things become a little more real. The various characters we've been introduced to have to deal with the realities of living in this new and scary world on a bit of a deeper level and it's kind of a turning point in their mindset (well, at least Rick's mindset). Since it's been about a year since this first happened (as we're told in this one) they have to be starting to have some doubts about whether they'll be "rescued" or if this is now they way it's going to be...forever.
I liked that this one dove more into the character's choices, both bad and good, a bit more. I think this really helped to dig deeper into each of them and made them each seem a little more real. What I love most about the TV show (and gradually the graphic novel as well) is that these aren't just another zombie-gore-fest. Yes, there's lots of mahem and blood and slaughtering. But it's about people and choices and what we (as humans) would do if we were to find ourselves in a similar situation. That's what I love most about The Walking Dead franchise, whether it be the TV show or the graphic novels. It's about the people.
The one thing I don't like about these graphic novels though is the inconsistencies with the way the characters are drawn. Almost every novel they each look at least slightly different and even from panel to panel they can look different. There's one page that has a closeup of Lori in two frames kiddy-corner from each other and in both of them she doesn't look anything alike. This can make it confusing and just plain annoying sometimes.
So I hope that the characters start to gain some consistency in the way they're drawn in the volumes to come. But other than that I love these. I like that they're not exactly the same as the TV show so that I can enjoy both without having to worry about being spoiled on one or the other.
