Everyone in this series is crazy. But yay Michonne finally showed up!
Le pénitencier est enfin débarrassé de tous les tueurs, humais et zombies, qui y traînaient, les mutineries sont terminées, la calme est revenu, et même le labourage des terres a commencé.
Tout va donc pour le mieux.
Évidemment, c’est quand les choses se calment qu’Allen se fait mordre en explorant la bibliothèque.
Et c’est aussi le moment où Michonne, récemment arrivée au pénitencier, commence à trouver ses marques, pour le plus grand malheur d’à peu près tout le monde.
J’aime bien ces petits moments de calme avant la tempête : Abel et Hershel qui cultivent ensemble, les couples heureux, les gamins qui s’amusent,… Il y a bien Otis et Patricia qui se font la gueule mais c’est largement compensé par Glenn et Maggie qui s’envoient en l’air dans tous les recoins.
En revanche, quand les ennuis arrivent, on retrousse Rick le plus que pénible. Qu’est ce que ça fait du bien de voir Tyreese lui coller une droite ! Enfin !
Ce gars là passe son temps à imposer ses règles, sans demander l’avis des autres, et s’empresse de ne pas les suivre lui même. Il m’épuise.
Carol aussi m’épuise. Si je suis pour l’instant réservée sur Michonne, je ne cautionne pas pour autant la tentative de suicide devant les gamins.
L’ensemble des femmes m’épuise d’ailleurs. A part coudre des habits, elles ne prennent aucune responsabilité et refusent de le faire d’ailleurs.
Du coup, je ressors un peu mitigée de la lecture de ce tome, dans lequel al violence entre humains prend bien souvent le dessus, au risque que les personnages oublient qui est leur véritable ennemi.

This one is all about power and control. These zombie books tell you a lot about humanity.
I actually really liked this volume. All the other ones I was meh about, because I just love the show so much better, but this one was good. Really good.

Die Spannungen zwischen einzelnen Mitgliedern nehmen aus verschiedenen Gründen immer weiter zu und die Lage droht mehr und mehr zu eskalieren. Insbesondere bezüglich des Umgangs mit den Untoten sowie weiteren Überlebenden zeichnet sich nun ein Machtkampf zwischen Rick und anderen Mitgliedern der Gruppe ab.
Daneben kommt es hier zu einem der denkwürdigsten Momente während des gesamten Gefängnisaufenthalts.

In volume 4, our group of survivors are settling into the new normal. The children are so used to seeing zombies around that they aren't even scared of them anymore. That's all they know. That's their normal.
The world is over and not coming back. It's all an uncharted path now. The old ways of thinking about what it means to be in a "society" no longer apply. Humanity will only get you so far in the face of annihilation. You must also embrace your primal savage side if you want to survive. We see this in Rick. He finally comes to terms with loosing all hope and it makes him into his most nihilistic and most powerful self.
Even after the apocalypse some things never change. Relationship's still have problems. Just because the apocalypse happened, it doesn't mean that people don't break up or cheat anymore. However, considering the dead are now trying to eat the living, everyone's emotions are teetering on a particularly steep cliff to say the least. What once could be healed with a pint of ice cream and a good cry now festers into something deeply dark and disturbing. When people are already hopeless, it doesn't really take much to have them fall - or purposefully step - off that cliff.
The apocalypse brings out new sides of people. Some search for a savior. Some fold into themselves with denial. Some rise to the top and become the leader. But none of this changes the fact that it's still a world of borrowed time as they all wait until it's their turn to join the walking dead.
