why does carol got to be kissing on everyone
also four stars for the “WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD” because wOw

#teammichonne not a lot happened in this one other than an epic Rick vs Tyreese fight and the end of Carol and Tyreese. Also RIP Allen. Onto the next one!!!

Pretty good volume in the series. The arrival of Michonne stirs things up, Rick resorts to desperate measures to ensure the safety of the group, and he and Tyreese come to blows. The safe haven of the prison doesn't seem so safe anymore, and the survivors aren't sure if Rick is fit to lead them on his own. The walking dead are the least of the groups worries.

Writer Robert Kirkman continues to ramp it up in this volume of this magnificent series.

Trouble hits the prison where our survivors have made their home in this harsh world of zombies and survival. The thing is... The amazing thing is... that this volume doesn't feature zombies predominantly at all.

I can remember several times in the course of readng this volume that my heart was actually trip-hammering. You might be thinking, "Yeah, it's a zombie book. The horror factor got to you a little bit... (Wuss.)" (Heh.) But that wasn't it at all.

This series has wonderfully developed charcters, plots, conflicts, and human problems that make you just as edgy as wondering whether there's a zombie around the corner. I think that speaks volumes. And again I say: This book may not be what you'd expect. If you've never read a comic book or graphic novel before, do yourself a big favor and go pick this series up. It's one I'd recommend for a new sequential art (comic book) reader and for anyone who loves a great, thrilling, compelling story.

Continuing on with my binge reread (as well as my first time reviewing the graphic novels, ah!) of The Walking Dead we've officially reached volume four. Time really flies by when you're reading one of these volumes--I have to stop myself from reading the entire series because if I could, I would do so and not eat/sleep. The Heart's Desire is one of my favourites to read because to me, it is one of the quickest. Also--Michonne is introduced in this go.

So for me, the intrigue is at an all-time high. Death and loss during the series are common. I mean, hello? Zombies. There's always that threat and the lengths they will go to continue to survive. At its deepest, that's what The Walking Dead is about; the complexities of remaining humane whilst surviving the most dire of circumstances. I think that The Heart's Desire really plays into this fact well and shows the most soul that we've seen in the first quarter of the series.

That being said: the massive cliffhanger at the end of the third volume is confronted right away and it's something that Rick struggles with through the remainder of this installment. I always thought that seeing this shift in Rick was one of the most realistic paths the novels could have taken with his entire persona. He is very conflicted trying to figure out where he stands and what his morals are nowadays and I think that's one of the most fascinating developments.

Second, the deaths. We lose a familiar face and nearly lose another after an affair breaks out. I don't want to spoil more of it, in case someone is reading my review that hasn't checked this out yet, but it is certainly dramatic. Between new faces and old; the same old threats in a new setting, the novel is both moving forward emotionally while standing still for the moment. Overall, it is a great read. I loved the balance of emotion, sex, violence and fear. Most of all, I loved seeing both conflict and support in the community the survivors have built for themselves.

I think this was my favourite one so far

Rick's speech at the end was great, but volume 4 isn't as good as the first three.

Great drama in this volume. When the group is supposed to be the safest they have been in a long time, they are the most vulnerable. Lots of interesting character development and insightful points of view but I do have one complaint. Robert Kirkman has real trouble writing female characters. Its just a weakness of his I noticed early on and so far, he hasn't gotten any better at it. That's the only thing that kept this volume from being 5 stars in my opinion.
