A progressively darker storyline in a fairly depressing (and ironic) locale. Interested to see how the show handles it, but I also hope the novel's group moves on to a new scenario soon.

3.5/5 Definitely better than volume 3. Still slow in spots, but better overall. Some characters seem a bit too dramatic due to lack of detailed background and characterization. One place where the comic succeeds that the show fails (for me)--Rick Grimes's likability factor. Much more sympathetic in the comics than in the show.

I love them! It's a little hard to keep the storylines straight between the comics and the TV series but both are so good.

Okay so this is easily my least favorite volume out of the four I've read so far. I was really excited when I saw Michonne finally get introduced, as she's one of my favorite character in the show, but her character is a total bitch in the comics and I hate that. I hate how all of the women are portrayed in these comics, but specifically in this volume, it's really bad.

This particular volume is full of nothing but drama. And not even the good kind of drama, but the stupid love triangle romantic bull shit drama. Michonne decides to swoop in there with Tyreese even though he's with Carol and she gives him a blow job and carol sees through the window and decides to go slit her wrists. Like what the fuck? Carol is so weak in these comics it drives me insane. Especially knowing how badass she is in he show. Then Tyreese later finds out about Carol and gets all mad at Michonne for "tempting him" like bitch, it takes two to tango. Michonne then acts like a bitch to everyone including Andrea when she gets caught talking to herself in her cell. When Rick catches Tyreese cheating on Carol with Michonne he freaks the fuck out even though it's really none of his business and they get into a physical fight over it and start beating the shit out of each other. It's fucking stupid. They literally almost kill each other over this shit and Rick goes unconscious for twenty six hours. If that isn't ridiculous enough, then when Rick finally wakes up, Carol tries to make a move on him and she kisses him even though he's still with Lori. Like what the fuck is all of this random shit? I hate seeing all these characters I love in the show act so idiotic and ridiculous in these comics. Then they decide Rick won't be the leader anymore but instead they'll have a committee full of men, no women. In fact, the women don't even want to be a part of it because they'd feel safer with the men in charge. How sexist is that?

The one thing I did enjoy was when Allen got bit and Rick decided right at that moment to cut his leg off so he wouldn't die, just like he did with Hershel in the show. But then I felt bad because the group got all pissed at Rick and Allen ended up dying anyway. I also loved seeing Sophia and Carl as I've said before they are my new OTP and they are just so cute. I look forward to their adorable scenes together. And, the greatest thing that happens in this volume, is Rick saying the famous line: "We ARE the Walking Dead!" Hands down, best part of this volume.

out of the four i’ve read thus far, this is the weakest, but Rick’s monologue at the end where he exclaims “we are the walking dead!” gave me CHILLS. his character development in this series is FASCINATING to watch. maybe i’ll watch the tv show now.

Thought I had read volume 3. Turns out I had not. So I was mostly confused for the first 20 pages, but did manage to catch onto the story. The leg-thing was so nerve-wrecking gosh!

I did not enjoy this one as much as the others. When it came to the plot lines involving women the thought process was...questionable to say the least. I’m going to keep reading to see what happens and the other events were compelling, but I did not like what was done with Michonne’s introduction to the group of how the women in the group were portrayed overall in this volume.

This was my least favourite collection so far - not to say it had no merit, because it did, I just didn't find it as compelling as the others. After finishing volume three, despite it being 5am, I couldn't stop reading. This one, I found easy to put down mid-way through, despite the fact Carol had just slit her wrists. I know it's a zombie apocalypse, but the angst factor really amped up here, what with Rick turning killer and defending his actions, Allen dying (impact lessened immeasurably by the fact he hasn't done anything but mope and call Andrea a cunt since Donna died), Tyreese cheating on Carol with Michonne... As for her, pretty much everything I've read about the comics tells me she's an awesome character, but I'm really not seeing it, or "getting" her so far. Plus she called Andrea a bitch, so... I did smile a little at Carol throwing herself at Rick, after earlier doing the same to Lori. Poor Sophia will likely be traumatised in a sitting-in-a-pool-of-her-mother's-blood Grey's Anatomy way. I think the best thing this collection had going for it was driving home the fact this is essentially a world without hope. The zombie problem will never ever be eradicated, because as soon as the living die, blam, more zombies. That final line of Rick's, "We are the walking dead" is truly chilling.

I'm having a hard time rating this, since the dialogue and the illustrations are really on different scales.
Firstly, there wasn't anything really wrong with the dialogue, except for the occasional repetition of certain lines, and the cheese factor. The illustrations were another matter entirely. I was having a hard time differentiating between characters, since they all seemed to look the same. I kept thinking, "Thank God Maggie cut all her hair off! I can at least tell which one she is!" The proportions were off, especially for the kids. Sophia often has an abnormally large head, and her features are too "old", and generic enough that she simply blends into ALL THE OTHER WOMEN! Bah!
Overall, it wasn't as smooth as I was expecting. Here's hoping for a better Volume 5!
