With the introduction of American legends such as Pecos Bill, Tom Sawyer, Raven, and more, Americana was a much more fun read than some of the other volumes in the Jack of Fables series.

Hawkeye is in this one! Plus Jack is searching for unlimited wealth and a new villain arises, the book burner.

I liked Jack’s story a lot at the start, but I just feel like this one was more of the same and less of an adventure. I didn’t like The Fallacy’s story at the end either.

Jack and various others travel to the land of Americana, where all of the American Fables come from, in search of treasure. We are introduced to Mr Burner, the head librarian of Americana, who burns books to destroy the stories but is still a nicer character than Jack even if he does try to kill babe the miniaturized blue ox (as a side effect of killing Paul Bunyan by burning his book). One of the Page sisters gets to kick Jack in the nuts after he reveals he has slept with all 3 of them (this will have major consequences later)

Oooo, things get good in this one. Jack really gets going on his quest for treasure, and one of the Page sisters who is on a mission of her own. And there are zombies! Hilariously ridiculous funny zombies! The zombies were totally and entirely my favorite part. Oh, and Humpty Dumpty has a treasure map on his ass - awesome!

This series has never been great, but this volume was just a shocking mess. I stopped caring about half way through, but I did make it to the end. I guess that means that the Fables crossover that's coming up is going to be a mess too as it seems like it's mostly stemming from the story lines in Jack.

The literal zombies are the best thing about this collection, but they're not even explained. Just thrown in there randomly while something that was potentially a good idea (Americana) goes absolutely no where because it's just so terribly written. I don't even have the energy to write properly about all the bad things in this series because this volume totally drained me.

I shall suffer onwards, because I'm still actually mostly enjoying the main Fables story so it seems I'll need to read these. And then, once I've got to past vol 6 and read the crossover, I'll feel obliged to finish the final three volumes; at least they're fairly short and quick to read.
