Imagine a psychotic 'nice' guy with incel behaviour writing an erotica trying to appeal to women. That's it. That's the plot. I've read Tumblr posts better written than this. Very much worded in a middle schoolers way with short to the point sentances trying to fill up a school essay. Unenjoyable plot, writing, characters, and overall vibe. Sometimes it's ok take commissions from weirdos on the internet because at least it's not public.

In this brief splatterpunk novella, we delve into the unsettling world of Charlie, a corpulent, repulsive, and mentally unhinged character plagued by psoriasis. His fixation revolves around his "book bestie," Jessie, and he's willing to go to extreme lengths to win her affection. The premise is undeniably intriguing and distinctive.

Regrettably, this narrative fell short of my expectations. It lacked the level of grotesqueness I anticipated, leaving me questioning my own preferences. Perhaps I'm unconventional for desiring a more repulsive experience. The graphic details, like spit, failed to induce the expected visceral reactions. Call me twisted, but it just didn't hit the mark. I envisioned a tale filled with rough, brutal, and stomach-churning scenes, but reality didn't align.

If you're averse to extreme horror, steer clear of this one. For those who revel in it, be warned—it doesn't reach the anticipated intensity. The story felt abbreviated, and my apathy towards Jessie, aside from her gender, was palpable. Hoping for her to triumph over Charlie was my sole concern. The abduction's brevity—lasting less than 24 hours—resulted in a lack of substantial events. The writing, characterized by its simplicity and choppiness, swiftly dismantled any immersion I had initially experienced. While the concept was entertaining, the execution left much to be desired.

CW: kidnapping, blood, violence, murder, bodily fluids, sexual content, rape, fatphobia, body shaming, incel nonsense (this part the author did really spot on, honestly. half a star for that. another half star for being short and the ending scene making me laugh in a good for her kind of way)

this is not extreme horror. this feels more like the author started writing a kidnapping erotica from the kidnappers pov, but then realised it was close to Halloween so wanted to throw in some gross scenes to hopefully make people scared. you occasionally get uncomfortable, and the last scenes made me laugh, but again, this isn't extreme horror. no matter what the synopsis says. It's just an erotica writer trying to be gross for the sake of being gross but kind of failing. imo, of course.

also the authors note on the back of this one is kind of hilarious: "this book is disgusting, and you probably shouldn't read it"

you were right. I probably shouldn't have read it, but mostly because it's just bad 🤷🏻‍♀️
