honestly hated the main character. most of the characters were fell into their own stereotypes. good plot though, I didn’t expect what happened. essentially, good plot, annoying characters

This was a lot of fun for a murdery book. I laughed out loud on multiple occasions just because of the writing style and the inner monologue of the main character. The magic elements were very interesting plus the plot was intriguing and left me guessing about 'whodunit'. The characters were intriguing and pretty well developed for having so many of them. There was one bit of foreshadowing that I felt was a bit obvious and while it ultimately ended more or less as expected, I kind of wanted it flushed out a bit better. Overall, I didn't want to put it down and enjoyed it immensely!

really mixed feelings on this one, but i think for the most part the book did a pretty good job of depicting the kind of depression and self-loathing that makes you want to blow your entire life up even if it hurts other people in the process (shoutout ganymedes). the worldbuilding & the plot twists were dubious, though - i particularly didn't enjoy the
bait and switch with wyatt and ravi, especially since that reveal came right after ganymedes getting his blessing, a choice for his character i ALSO didn't enjoy. we suffer through ganymedes' grief with him, but since we don't get to REALLY experience his relationship with ravi at all prior to the book's events, i found his bonding with wyatt in the throes of both of their grief very sweet (if not ill-advised, but i <3 doomed relationships) and the implications of wyatt's fraught relationship to shinjiro wrt his disability fascinating! until i didn't, because none of that was real. SURE. also ravi being revealed to have been the one to withhold dee's clothes is BONKERS. on so many levels that is like, horrible and humiliating to do to someone you care about (in the middle of a MURDER SPREE, no less), and i'm supposed to just sit here and believe that they're going to continue to have a loving relationship well into the future in the epilogue. i don't!
