When it comes to fantasy/urban fantasy, I tend to get lost in the world-building, but Kel did a great job giving us just the right amount. I'll have to do the ebook for a re-read since I'm sure I missed some things in translation.
I'm quite the fan of Piper, she's a bit of an anti-heroine aka a kind of character I haven't read before. It's vastly different and while it won't work for everyone, but it worked for me. No doubt she's a bada** and can hold her own, but she's a bit of a jerk. We've read a lot of heroes like this and we tend to love them, So I'm totally here for the role reversals ;-)
Overall, I thought this was a solid start to this series, I can't wait to dive in even deeper. I wish we got to see more of the hero, but we got a few more books to go, so I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
Seriously, I'm so glad I found this author this year, ready for more!

This is a great example of a book that is fast-paced enough to keep my attention, and therefore entices me to continue with the series. This is not as good as Kit Rocha's Mercenary Librarians or any Ilona Andrews, but it is similar in enough ways that I find it enjoyable. I raced through it, and I will likely finish the series.

3.5*
Felt a little like magic meets post apocalyptic world, and I loved that concept! Made for a different read, and I really wanted to LOVE this book but the characters just weren't very memorable or addictive for me. I skimmed a little near the end, as my attention started to stray. I preferred the FMCs friend, Nathalie, she had more personality and interest. Just not sure what to make of it all, and if I want to continue the series.

Piper is an interesting character, a badass asshole cause her past is pretty fucked up. Nonetheless I liked her. She is unapologetic and knows what she wants. I liked how she started to open up to Nat.
Then we meet Ronan and oh my he is a proper alfa asshole, he is bad from the big B and it’s captivating.
Oh and then we meet Lucifer and let me tell you, he didn’t disappoint. Megalomaniac physco - yes, please.
Oh and both these guys want Piper. And she wants her freedom more than these two combined.

Great read!
Loved this book. Hate that Amazon has a minimum character requirement. Will be getting the next book in the series.

It’s alright
I wish I could give it like a 2.5 rating. It’s really not bad - it’s an easy, fun read that keeps you interested. I just tend to really like books that make me ponder existence, that take me on harrowing adventures while making me question everything I’ve ever known. And this one was just kind of predictable to me. Again, that’s a personal preference thing, so if you just want to read something simple and sexy, then absolutely I would recommend this book. It’s fine, just not something I’d be interested in reading again.
I should also note that it's the flavor of these relationships that has me a little steely against the plot, too. Teenage me probably would've loved them, but as an adult I find it difficult to see cruel or pushy relationships and people as attractive.

Stuff Your Earbuds Find!
Ruthless meets ruthless and one wants nothing to do with the other. How wonderful on so many levels. I will say I'm a fan of Piper's survivor mentality, keeping away everyone she can until she can't. She didn't carry it on her shoulder as a pity party to say the least, but as one that used as the iron wall to keep everyone at a distance until they ended up being disposed of. Weather it be by her hands or by accident. I understand that this book is very much a worldbuilding set up and I'm very excited to see what the rest of the series has left for me. And maybe some more Ronan backstory and development.
