Wow. That’s really all I can say about this book. As a romantasy, romance, and thriller reader I picked this book up on a recommendation and boy am I glad I did. I thought I knew exactly what I was getting into but…just read it! Pay attention to trigger warnings!

Disappointing, but on par for this author. The amount of unnecessary trauma/drama thrown into this story left a bad taste in my mouth towards all Tiffany D. Jackson books.

How much can I witness one character be dragged through before I can no longer suspend disbelief?

Seems like she just enjoys torturing her characters.

The amount of colorism, racism, fat shaming, ableism, false 'mental health' representation, abuse, mentions of rape and molestation, inappropriate sexual relationships, stereotypes, and just downright torture for shock value that took place in this book - disgusting.

this would’ve been a 4⭐️ if it weren’t for the constant caricaturization of the other girls in the group home. the constant use of fatphobia and colorism to describe tara made me uncomfortable in particular. also the the twist wasn’t as shocking as i thought it would be

Gdamn and so "Allegedly" ended with a bang.

In this book we follow a young convict, Mary, who was sentenced for the murder of a baby named Alyssa. We get flashbacks of her time in baby jail while we follow her current timeline in a group home for girls like her. At the moment the story is happening, she is digging back up Alyssa's case so as to prove that she was convicted wrongly.

I must say I liked the book enough but the plot twist annoyed me so such. I get that it needed a little BANG! But my gosh do I hate the twist.

Ok other than that, I liked the characters. My favorite being her lawyer, Mrs Cora and her exam teacher person, Mrs Claire. I just love seeing women being given big roles and that is exactly what the author gave these 2.

The story flows at a pretty ok pace but the switching of timelines might get a little confusing. 1 sec she's in her room, something big happens, and we've moved ahead in the plot and Mary is now walking the group home or something. It might be a little frustrating at 1st but it's easy to ignore once you get used to it as you don't stay in one scene for too long.
