Holy Moses on a pogo stick

Elle's new catchphrase, #justsaying.

I need to start off by mentioning something I really love about Lara Adrian. She just isn't afraid to give readers a healthy dose of reality and angst in her books. Although I am a complete sap and prefer everything to be pink, fluffy and glittery, life is not that. Lara Adrian isn't afraid to make people suffer, or even die, and that is a great thing! It adds so much to this series!

I really loved this book. Like, really loved it. Dante & Tess where such good characters but there was just something about it that made it impossible for me to give it 5 stars. The plot was a little 'eh' at times and as much as Dante and Tess where lovely together, neither of them where truly lovable separately. As much as I loved it, I don't think I could read it again either.

I would of loved to see more of the breed. This book seemed to be solely focused on Dante or Tess 98% of the time and what little other character development we got was Chase. I really loved Chase and I kinda wanted him together with Elise (who needed a good slap in my opinion. didn't have an ounce of sympathy for her which i suppose makes me a horrible person).

Actually now that I'm babbling on I think it was the lack of other characters that let this book down (shush, i have a thought process). At times it seem Adrian shoved in other characters, like Rio, to remind us there where other people in the Breed. They felt like fillers, more so than an actual part of Dante's story.

The ending didn't surprise me really. I knew that Chase had to be the one and that by that stage there was no real option for him to do anything other than what he did, but after all the talk about recruiting at the start, I was kind of hoping that they'd ask him to come back.

The last scene between Dante & Tess also made me want to punch something. It was just so sweet, which was something that I didn't really think their relationship was capable off. Neither of them where sweet people and although they clearly cared for each other, there was no need for the syrupy dialogue.

All that being said, I can't wait to continue on with this series.

I have read Kiss of Crimson at least twice since discovering the Breed. Evil is growing in Boston. Young Dark Haven males are getting addicted to a drug known as Crimson. The longer they use it the more they are at risk of becoming rogue.

Dante is one of the warriors that has pledged to eliminate the threat. An encounter leaves him injured and he escapes to a Vet Clinic run by Tess. After a chance meeting with the vet, Dante soon discovers that his heart is at more of a risk that his life fighting the rogues.

Kiss of Crimson is packed with suspense. Danger oozes from the pages. Denial and fear wraps around Tess. Dante has his work cut out for him. Protect Tess. Protect Boston. Get Tess to accept him as her mate and as a vampire.

10/25/22 binging the series, loved listening to Kiss of Crimson again.

I can't wait to read the third book of this series. I love it. This time I felt that the characters had more of a backstory, and I really enjoyed reading about Tess's.

Finally finished it. Loving this world that these men are in. Some may think its a knock off of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but there are differences that make it unique and enjoyable in its own right. Really glad I found this series.

A small confession: I usually give a series somewhere around two to three books to impress me, if the series is of the intertwined standalones variety, for the simple reason that one couple/protagonist may not be my favorite, but another might be.

So it's always somewhat of a trial and error process to figure out if it was these set of characters I didn't like, or the authors storytelling (although, sometimes it's fairly obvious).

Kiss of Midnight, the first of the Midnight Breed series, was an underwhelming experience for me, especially considering the hype surrounding this paranormal series. But since this is a series of standalones, I gave it another chance—only to be disappointed again.

It's fair to say I will not be reading another book in the Midnight Breed world.

The one word that pops to my head when I think Kiss of Crimson is "meh". It was an okay story, for the most part. A fast, mindless read to pass the time with that I can barely remember now, two years later. But I will give these books that - they are readable. So if you're looking for something that won't demand too much of you... pick them up.

My biggest issue with this book (and the likes of it) is the romance itself, and this being a paranormal romance... it's a pretty big deal. But I never understood Tess and Dante's love. It came about too quickly, with the physical element of it happening too fast for my liking. The startling "you're my life" type of declarations sprang out of nowhere, considering neither could name the other's favorite color to save their lives, not to mention anything more fundamental than that.

I find it really hard to swallow romances where it feels like if you were to ask our two main characters to describe each other, they wouldn't be able to fill up more than two sentences. This isn't love - it could be attraction or infatuation or even in lust, but not in love.

Therefore, I simply didn't believe their love. And that kind of means I didn't believe the story, period.
