I added this book to my 'to read' shelf after reading another one of Trottier's books and being impressed by her lyricism and delicate storytelling. Sister to the Wolf is a beautiful retelling of 18th century life in Canada and the northern USA. I really enjoyed Trottier's characterization of both Celile and Lesharo. They were multi-faceted characters who exhibited more than just the status quo of the typical YA character. Their friendship and romance was very well developed, and it had an emotional depth that is rare to find in books.
Additionally, although this book was written for young adults, it was not overly simplistic. It was an enjoyable read for me, and I think it would be for many adults and teenagers, alike.
The balance between Lesharo's Pawnee religion and Celile's Catholicism was a challenging balance, one that made you think. I appreciated Trottier's task of taking on such a daunting balance and really tackling it, instead of giving it a slap ending. She highlighted flaws and strengths in both religions, and showed the difference but also the complimentary aspects of both sides. I thought that this balance was well done.
All in all, Sister to the Wolf was a very enjoyable read, and one that had me keep coming back for more! Bravo, Trottier.

The book that got me into reading, many years ago. I love this book, and the story and it's characters are close to my heart.
