Writing was great! Kept me engaged through the whole story. I'm not all that sure how much I enjoyed it though. I did read it quite quickly, and to be honest I'm not sure how much I remember from it (I do suffer from chronic migraines and my memory is shot). Emma and Bastien were engaged but her abandoned her with no explanation. She really did like him. When he comes back into her life and acts like nothing happened, of course she's like wtf. Things happen, love happens (of course, we're reading romance after all), HEAs are wonderful! There was a pretty nice twist. I guess I do mostly remember now that I'm typing this up lol.

I'll definitely look for more from Sophie Morgan.

This book felt slow and boring. Like a not great YA read with some steamy scenes in here but it felt awkward because of the YA vibe. Had to push through to finish.

I received an eARC courtesy of Harlequin via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I'm all for magical romcoms and this didn't disappoint me. With the added bit of mystery, this book was simply delightful. I'm going to be super disappointed if Morgan doesn't continue on in this world. I really need books that follow Tia, Leah and Sloane next.

For Libraries: If you have fans of paranormal romance (and what library doesn't?), then you will want this one.

I finished reading this book a month ago but didn’t have time to write a review then. What has stuck with me is that I had a hard time with the beginning of the book, but I stuck with it, and eventually I did really like the story overall. You learn a lot more about Emma’s history, and that explains a great deal about her flaws—seriously traumatic childhood.

One thing I never understood: if witches can just portal to wherever they want to go, what prevented Clarissa from just following Emma and continuing to torture & torment her?

For readers’ advisors: story doorway is primary, character secondary. Plenty of swearing, some steamy sex scenes. No onscreen violence but discussion of child abuse.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the free eBook ARC!
