The Magic School Bus is a great series that my fourth-grader English Language Learners love reading. (I teach English and Science in a bilingual program at an elementary school in China.) The story is nice, with characters the students can relate to, and a plot that keeps it going. The illustrations are integral to the story, and the whole teaches interesting tidbits of science as well as English vocabulary.
