It’s a complicated story but more and more is revealed. Still curious what is happening and going to happen, so on to the next one!

The author doesn't give you any time to return to the world of the Broken Earth trilogy. Instead, she expects the reader to fully know what happened in the first novel, which makes the beginning really hard to comprehend and prevents me from giving it a higher score.

Essun gets used to life in Castrima while Nassun journeys to the Antarctics with her father.

It’s difficult to rate this book because I think it’s great writing telling a really unique story, but at the same time I mostly just want it to be over with. There’s so much misery. Everything’s so fucked up. I just want to find out what happens and move onto the next book.

I really liked the development of Hoa in this book. Nassun’s story was hard to read but fascinating. The Stoneeaters are unique and interesting. On to part 3, I guess…
