I have a longer review forthcoming. In the meantime, I'll just say the bulk of the book, written in the 70s is a fair and interesting account of people's experiences no matter what you believe those experiences actually are. I found that quite thought provoking and educational.

However, the afterword, written much more recently, is a fairly abrupt change in tone and content. Basically, sometime in the interim, he decided it was all real without a doubt and a) constructed a machine based on ancient greek designs that he claims lets people talk to the dead and b) is planning on inducing NDEs in people so he can send them as some kind of necronaut to the other side and bring back observations. These claims may be several bridges to far for me at this point. Steve Volk was right, here there be dragons.

Having said that, this book is crucial if you want to understand NDE's, at least how they're processed and talked about in this culture.
