I loved the first book in this series. I was absolutely charmed by the MCs and the setting. This book is quite different in this regard. It starts off strong, slowly building chemistry and nicely developing each MC's character. The enemies-to-lovers plotline then suffers from a severe case of whip-lash when everything instantly and bizarrely changes. It does not take long at all for all their differences to be brushed aside and very quickly after their first hookup, the two MCs announce to everyone that they know that they are seriously a dating couple. Too much, too soon ... and also, out of character for both these MCs. This trend continued leaving behind the chemistry in it's wake. Both MCs also suffered an unfortunate personality transplant when the angst hits. And there is angst, a weighty amount of it (which was also different from the first book). Despite this, the relationship progresses at breakneck speed and any diagreements are quickly resolved. In the end, this book lacked the substance and depth that I was looking for but unfortunately, was not able to find.

This was lovely to read, a warm, interesting story about two people building a relationship. The romance was sweet and compelling.

They were boyfriends.
They liked each other.
It was as simple as that.

I liked this book. The fokus was on the relationship and the characters. There were some angst to give the story and the characters some depth, but mainly it was just the relationship between the two Mc's that set the tone of the book. I like the way the relationship just evolved slowly but strong. It wasn't easy, but it seemed natural. It was a good and heartwarming book.

I liked this, but not as much as the first one. I had seen reviews describing it as enemies to lovers before I started it, but… not really? A bad first impression leaves them both hating one another, but the misunderstanding is cleared up very early in the book, and they immediately go from that hatred to hooking up and then to being boyfriends. The relationship development felt a bit fast, and most of the book ends up being more about them dealing with their jobs and making time for one another and dealing with trauma and stuff. It wasn't BAD but it didn't feel like what I had signed up for or was expecting. It didn't really feel like a romance, which was what I was looking for, so I was left slightly disappointed.

So good! Definitely stand alone. Will have to come back later and say more but I think this series is Lisa Henry’s best work so far.
